PS Vita Round-Up: May Will Add To Your Collection

PS Vita Round-Up: May Will Add To Your Collection The month of May looks to be quite an exciting one for Sony’s PlayStation Vita handheld. Not only do we see portable versions of classic titles, but North America will also see a release of the new Slim Model that has already seen great success after its Japanese release back in October of last year, boosting its average weekly sales from 5,000 to more than 24,000.

The new PlayStation Vita Slim measures 20% thinner, 15% lighter, has a cheaper price tag, and even more than an hour of extra battery life; though most of these improvements are caused by the replacement of the OLED display for a traditional LCD display. However, many have argued that the new display is quite comparable.

The PS Vita Slim has only been advertised for North America as a bundle release with Borderlands 2. Whether or not we will see a stand-alone release alongside the bundle is still unknown, but the bundle will be available on May 6th. Let’s just hope it boosts the sales in North America as much as it has in Japan.

On the software end, PlayStation Plus subscribers should be on the lookout for upcoming free titles for their instant game collection. During the month of May, North American subscribers will be able to download Limbo and Surge Deluxe for free. European subscribers on the other hand will get a free copy of Muramasa Rebirth as well as Everybody’s Golf.

With those bits of news out of the way, let’s take a look at the current slated releases for the PS Vita in the month of May. Of course keeping in mind that all dates are subject to change without notice.

    God of War Collection
The God of War series has definitely left its mark in Sony’s history as one of the greatest exclusives that the console has to offer. While the PSP has seen its share of some bite sized God of War action, the God of War Collection for the PS Vita seeks to bring that experience to the next level by offering the PlayStation 2’s God of War and God of War II in HD and in your pocket.

Relive the epic tale of Kratos, the once-Spartan, as vengeance drives him on a quest to kill the gods themselves. Mercilessly slashing your way through enemies by unleashing powerful combo attacks. Expect God of War Collection to hit store shelves on May 6th in North America and May 8th in Europe.

    Borderlands 2
Loot, madness, and insane weapons is the name of this game. Back in 2012, Borderlands 2 was quite the success story by being awarded with nearly perfect scores across the board. Now with a collaboration between Sony, Iron Galaxy Studios, and Gearbox, you will now be able to take this crazy addictive shooter with you wherever you go.

Borderlands 2 features cross save with the PS3, allowing you to jump right into the action if you’re a seasoned vet. You can also expect a bundle of add-on packs to be fully loaded with this version including the extra classes, extra scenarios, and even the vault hunter packs. If you don’t already own a PS Vita, you can get Borderlands 2 early with the PS Vita Slim bundle on May 6th in North America. Otherwise you can pick up the game alone on May 13th. Unfortunately for now there is no date set for Europe at this point.

    Mind Zero
The Class of Heroes franchise from Zero Div has seen its share of mixed reviews but still managed to create a sizeable fanbase when it was released back in 2008. Along with the help of Acquire, Zero Div looks to expand on their take on the dungeon crawling genre, bringing a whole new IP featuring new combat mechanics and a unique style in visuals.

The player takes control of a high school student named Kei who is on the run with his friends after he makes a contract with a being called MIND that wields deadly powers. Using the MIND and a unique Burst and Charge system, Kei will have to uncover the secrets behind the MIND while surviving attacks from the government and unknown assailants. Mind Zero will be available on May 27th in North America and May 28th in Europe.

    Sly Cooper Collection
The Sly Cooper Collection is finally arriving for the North American audience come May. Already released in Europe, this collection features the main series titles from the PlayStation 2 era remastered for the PS Vita. These include Sly Cooper and the Thievius Racoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves.

By mixing elements of stealth, thievery, strategy, combat, and exploration in many different settings across the globe, you will pull off daring heists as the mischievous raccoon, as well as his hang of friends in this timeless platformer adventure. This title will be available in North America on May 27th.

What an exciting month for the PS Vita. If you’re planning on picking up any of these titles, or perhaps getting your hands on the new Slim model, be sure to leave us a comment below and let us know. As always, be sure to keep an eye on Gaming Union for updates on all these titles as well as reviews in the coming month.
