Five Memorable Video Game Commercial Endorsements

I'm sure many of you have seen the recent commercial advertising the Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and Subway promotion that's going on this month, complete with Nathan Drake himself doing the advertising.

While some may scream foul for their precious Drake being portrayed as a pawn of capitalist culture, the entire concept isn't exactly a new one. There have been a number of commercial endorsements partnered with our favourite video games and we're about to go through some of the more memorable ones.

In no particular order, off we go!

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Taste for Adventure Subway Promotion

We'll start off with the most recent and obvious promotion. I'm not entirely a big fan of Subway, but they certainly grabbed my attention by sticking Nathan Drake into the mix. Not to mention the rewards are pretty enticing. An entire month's worth of early access to the game's online multiplayer mode? Yes, Please. Plus, the commercial is just too hilarious in a deliberately cheesy manner.

Final Fantasy IX Coca Cola Commercial

Running to the tune of Melodies of Life, the 30 second Coca Cola TV spot featuring Square's Final Fantasy IX springs to mind when thinking about memorable commercial endorsements. Most would associate the Coca Cola brand with its traditional polar bear and penguin adverts broadcasted only so many times during the holiday season, yet there's something magical about seeing it alongside Zidane and gang.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Regain Energy Drink Commercial

Like the Final Fantasy IX Coca Cola commercial, this one featuring energy drink Regain and Metal Gear's Solid Snake was only ever broadcasted in Japan, yet it's arguably one of the more memorable video game commercials. Not to mention the storm of Apple products prominently featured in the game, including the Mac G5 tower, cinema displays and iPod. When was the last time you saw Solid Snake advertising a product that wasn't a cardboard box? Thought so.

Gran Turismo 5 Kevin Butler Commercial

Little needs to be said about this commercial starring PlayStation's VP of Everything. Not only does Kevin Butler advertise what Gran Turismo 5 is about, it's just as easily a commercial about the many motorsport sponsors like Mercedez and Chevrolet.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Commercial with Robin Williams

Robin Williams is a well-known fan of The Legend of Zelda from Nintendo, going so far as to name his daughter after the princess herself. More of a celebrity endorsement than commercial, it's just one of the more magical ones we've seen in a very long time.
