Vita has a release date! Namely, February 22nd, 2012 in North America and Europe. That means it's time to start preparing to play jaw-droppingly gorgeous games as you walk along the street and bump into other pedestrians. Hey, it also has rear-touch, and that's just a great selling point. As the anticipation for Vita mounts, we decided to compile our most anticipated titles for Sony's latest handheld, in alphabetical order.
"Escape Plan features two hapless characters, Lil and Laarg, who have been captured and need your influence, skill and brainpower to escape from a dark labyrinth of irreverent puzzles and traps... Players can swipe, squeeze, poke and slap these guys to interact and manipulate the environment and help Lil and Laarg survive each deadly room before their captor and nemesis recycles them and turns them into his minions"¦ or sheep."
"Gravity [Rush] is a game for the PlayStation Vita, one that utilizes gravity manipulation as its main gameplay mechanic and is being developed by Sony and the creator of Silent Hill himself, Keiichiro Toyama... Hitting the R button brings the player into a zero gravity state while using the PSVita's gyroscope controls the camera, hitting R again will turn wherever the camera is directed at into the ground. Meanwhile, the L button will revert gravity back to normal."
"Taking advantage of the Vita's touchscreen and other input avenues, sensors and cameras, players can play, create and share on the go, whenever, wherever they are. Just like LBP2, players can continue to create their own games and genres using the available creation tools. The Vita can even be tilted vertically to play gravity-based games, or two player games where either player grabs an end of the handheld system much like Virtua Tennis 4 for the Vita."
Resistance: Burning Skies
"Resistance: Burning Skies, is being developed by Nihilistic Software and will take place shortly before the events of Resistance 2. Players will take on the role of Tom Riley, a fireman who finds himself trapped in the United States during its downfall. Armed with his trusty fire axe, Riley must defend himself against the Chimeran hordes though guns will become available as the game progresses."
Ruin is an action role-playing game set in a medieval setting and is being developed for the PS3 and Vita. This cross-platform development is significant because Ruin aims to allow players to seamlessly transfer their progress from Vita to PS3, or vise versa. Beyond that, the game itself looks pretty neat as well.
"Created by Everyday Shooter's Jonathan Mak, Sound Shapes is a game that revolves around a small yellow orb that the player moves around within a tiny musical world... Of all the games playable for the PlayStation Vita, Sound Shapes is definitely one to keep an eye on. You can sit playing this for hours and hardly feel anything but satisfied. Keep a look out for Sound Shapes... It just might be one of the main selling points it has to offer."
Street Fighter X Tekken
"Ryu and Ken versus Kazuma and Nina. If that isn't one of the most epic match-ups in the history of video game fights, then I don't know what is. It was simple enough deciding on which characters to use. Our Editor-in-Chief Darryl is a Tekken man whilst I'm more of a Street Fighter fan myself, thus the most epic three rounds of tag-team action kicked off."
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Our favourite heroes from both the Marvel and Capcom universes are set to collide again in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Playing as these epic characters on the go with Vita will likely be made better thanks to the inclusion of 12 new fighters and eight stages. Keep an eye on this one, folks.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss
"Spearheaded by Uncharted: Golden Abyss, it's really quite difficult to pass the [Vita] off as another PSP. Uncharted is a series that has grown to be associated with amazing visuals, great gameplay and, of course, a well told story. I can't say too much about that last aspect, but at the very least fans can expect Golden Abyss to be yet another great entry into the PlayStation portfolio when it leads the launch of the Vita."
"WipEout 2048 is one of the launch titles set to rock the stage when the PlayStation Vita launches... It's no surprise as the WipEout franchise is pretty synonymous with PlayStation hardware launches. The boys at Liverpool Studio talk up the PSVita hardware as well as the development of WipEout 2048, which features Cross-Play, allowing players to go head-to-head whether their own PS3 or PSVita."
