Sony's Next-Gen console, the Playstation 4, is finally out in the wild and gamers have just over a week to try to get to grips with it. Thankfully, many of its features are easy to find, but there are still some great features that many have not uncovered yet.
That's why we've decided to put together a nice list, with the hopes that you'll be able to get a little bit more out of your PS4 console moving forward:
Remember the days of huge the huge download list on the PS3? It wasn't the most efficient way to see what games you have purchased and can download again. You'd end up scrolling through hundreds of add-ons and avatars just to find a game to play and it was overbearing for some.
With the PS4, this has been remedied thanks to the new Library screen. At the PS4's main menu, scroll all the way to the right and you'll find the Library screen. Through this system, the PS4 now keeps track of all of your game purchases by title, rather than one long list of each individual purchase.
When you're not using your PS4, putting it in Standby Mode provides many useful benefits. For one, the system is put in a low power state keeping it cooler and using less energy. The larger benefit is keeping your system up to date. If any updates are pushed for your system, games, or applications, the PS4 will automatically download and install them.
Additional features include the ability to continue any currently running downloads and uploads, something which is great if you have a large game to download or have a slew of gameplay footage to share to friends. Just keep in mind that any running applications will be terminated, so save your progress beforehand!
The headset jack on your controller can support any standard headset. This allows you to listen to your game audio directly from your controller, providing an easy alternative if you're in a noisy environment or needing to play quietly.
Just plug in your headset, go to Settings > Sound and Screen > Audio Output Settings > Output To Headphones > All Audio. Then when you're done, you can switch it right back by changing it back to Chat Audio.
Direct Remote Play
For those out there that have busy wireless networks, the idea of using remote play on the PS Vita through their wireless network may be questionable. Luckily the PS4 gives an alternative method to enjoy Remote Play.
Under Settings > PS Vita Connection Settings, there is an option to Connect Directly with the PS Vita. This will allow the PS Vita and PS4 to communicate directly to each other. A safe alternative when dealing with a streaming heavy home.
There's no doubt that with the increase of social features, typing with a controller just doesn't cut it anymore. Luckily the PS4 features a vast array of new ways to communicate with others. First of all, PS4 does support Bluetooth functionality. This means the easiest and most convenient method is to tether a small Bluetooth keyboard to your PS4 and use it to type. This is found under Settings > Devices > Bluetooth Devices.
Alternatively, the new Playstation Mobile App makes for a handy method to inputting as well. Once you install the app, select to "Connect To PS4". After a quick set up process, you can then select to use the phone as a Second Screen. Doing this will allow you to use your phone's touch keyboard to input messages.
