Final Fantasy XIV: Always Make Sure You're Well Prepared

Lauren and I had quite an eventful time in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn this week. Not only did I end up getting some rather glamourous gear, but there was also a lesson to be learnt about trying to do quests when you're a few levels below what the game suggests.

Let's start off with the gear. One of the cool things about MMOs is that you get to mould your character into whatever you want. You get to try different classes, choose your friends, pick your look when you start"¦ and of course, decide how your character should be dressed. The later becomes far more interesting when you're high levels, as when you are struggling at low levels during your first run through, you have to take what you can get.

In my case, at this stage in the game that meant I ended up wearing a rather undesirable subligar, which didn't leave enough to the imagination for my liking!

Even with my glorious gear, I still wasn't able to beat the quest "Violators Will Be Shot". This was part of my Archer's guild guest, but my level was far too low. At the time, I didn't think it would make much difference that, I would be able to beat the quest through my skill, but it became apparently on my second defeat that this was a noble, but fruitless endeavour.

It was a harsh lesson, but one Lauren and I took on board. We will make sure to always be the recommended level for any quests we undertake in the future!

The rest of this week was spent finishing up a few outstanding quests and also getting involved with some Levequests. As mentioned before, these offer quick boosts of experience for completing tasks in or around the designated area. These can range from killing enemies, to escorting an NPC from one place to another and that's exactly what one of our quests this time revolved around. We had to escort a Slyph to their little encampment, all while protecting her from rather nefarious looking creatures.

Oh yea, we also had to fight against a massive toad during our journey through the story! It wasn't all that tough, but it sure took us by surprise.
