It's not racism. Racism is the persecution of a people based on race. No one's being persecuted here.

If anything, it's racial stereotyping, something that is seen all kinds of entertainment media. People are just blowing this out of proportion.

Not every game, just some, and they are. There's nothing wrong with Racism, the term has really just spiraled out of control over the years. There's a difference between racism, prejudice, and a hate crime. Most people assume all three are the same and I believe those people are wrong.

really, it's pathetic to make such a fuss over something like this. I don't really see why people do.
y'know, I'm sick of people making big deals over simple, stupid crap. Remember the crap over the "racism" in Resident Evil 5? or even more recently, the crap over the scene in Portal 2 where in the end, it's all just a game, if you don't like what's going on, ignore it and move on with your life.

That's interesting because i actually feel that the guy who complained about the insult in Portal 2 had a point. But it's not like everyone could complain, as a person in his situation it was a fair complaint. His adoptive daughter could have been very upset with something like that, but because she failed to notice the line, it never went any further.

This 'racist' argument is different, the character could be considered a stereotype but only because of the accent and skin colour. If you're offended by accents and skin colour, doesn't that mean you're racist? And if so, i believe your time would be better spent complaining about every GTA game that's ever existed.

well, I watched both the initial news footage of that and the follow-up on it several times, and it seems to me that the man had a few choices for dealing with that situation:
1. Talk to her about it and explain that it was just a game and that bad people like to say bad things to get a reaction out of you
2. ignore the situation and move on
3. shut the game off and never play it again
4. whine and complain about it

the man chose the 4th one obviously, which I must say seemed rather pathedic. Apparently, he attempted the first one, but she stood her ground saying that she didn't notice it (i believe she did but thought nothing of it myself), so really, what was the point of complaining about it to the media at that point (notwithstanding the fact that the news station that reported it didn't do some simple fact checking as they stated that the game was a "childrens'" game and stated it was billed as "educational". neither of these is true)

I agree with Eskimo Keith on the Portal 2 point, though perhaps not so strongly. It seems harsh to call his complaints pathetic, but at the same time it is just another portrayal of something that happens in real life and no one can censor that.

As for this racism debacle I totally agree with Adam and think that he sums things up well. For me it is the development of western culture that is bringing this sort of thing on, and it is getting worse. I don't know that there is anything we can do about it either.
