Is the 3DS really worth it?

I've thought about getting one for my birthday in December, but I don't know, especially considering KH 3D. I've played my friend's 3DS, and when I turn on the 3D function, it looks like I'm cross-eyed when I'm wearing glasses. Generally, it's a pain for me to put on contacts all the time, because they itch sometimes. For some games, I still can't use 3D even with contacts. Do you think it's worth my money?

If you're buying solely for the 3D novelty, then I'd say no.

If you're buying it because for the games, the library, with the exception of remastered N64 ports, is kinda lacking at the moment. Granted, more games are on the way, so don't feel that I'm short-changing the handheld.

I would say something about that price for a handheld that doesn't seem to be valid for a handheld that not's quite an upgrade from it's predecessor, but if saving for a PS Vita sounds too daunting, then with the recent price-cuts for the 3DS may be incentive enough to pick one up now.

Your choice, ultimately.

yes, it may be lacking at the moment, but there's always a possibility of a great title coming down the pipeline at a later date.
Considering the ones we know are on their way (Metal Gear Solid 3D, Kid Icarus Uprising, Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, and Theaterythum Final Fantasy are some examples of stuff that might be of interest) it might be worth it. Also, you can consider the 3DS Virtual Console, which, not unlike the Wii Virtual Console, allows you to play classic games from past systems (what's all available, I don't know, but I know that NES and GBA games are, and believe that we will also see GB, and GBC games as well, iirc). With a little luck, maybe they'll do some import titles from the GBA like Mother 3 Big Grin
but really, the big question is this: How much do YOU really want a 3DS?

I don't even play my DSi very much anymore... And currently, my only real incentive is KH Dream Drop Distance. I've already replaced my copy of KH BBS, which I lost, and my parents will not like it if I suddenly decided to purchase another console. Also, the 3DS isn't backwards-compatible is it?

actually, you can play most of your DS games and apparently, you can transfer purchased DSi Ware onto it as well

I'm not aware of any problems with DS backwards compatibility, and it's there. But always double check google or something in case you're planning on playing certain titles on it. Sometimes bugs happen with backwards compatibility.

As for if you're going to buy it or not. Don't buy it for the 3D, as great as some find it, or some don't, a temporary gimmick and battery drain shouldn't be your drive for it. Titles should be your drive for it. Wait for a decent bit of games you want to play on it to come out. Don't buy it thinking "well, this is coming out soon", because these titles can get canceled. I was near buying it for MMLegends3 and ToA3D, and MML3 was canceled and TOA3D is delayed. So, again don't buy until you know for a fact they are being shipped.

I would have said 'heck no' a month or so ago. But with the price change, it's much better looking. Still waiting for a good game to release on it though, they are all TBA vaporware ATM.

Edit: Meant Mega Man Legends 3, not 2.

yea, to my understanding, outside of a few standard titles, the only games that will not work on the 3DS are the DS games that might require an option pack of some sort (like the fret board for GH on tour), as obviously, there is no GBA slot on the 3DS, but at that point, if highwind death is going from a DSi to a 3DS, that should be no big issue, as its the same deal with the DSi

umm... you do mean MML3, correct? and yea, I'm still quite sore about that -_-

So, I guess it's a possibility. I still feel that I might not be getting the full value of the product if I can't use its most prominent feature.

I'm not a Nintendo fan in the slightest, and if you are then I would suggest getting a 3DS at the end of the day. However, I would strongly recommend taking a look at the PlayStation Vita before you decide, and maybe waiting for that. The games lineup is already looking good for launch, the price is extremely reasonable and it has some of the 'novelty style' features of the 3DS but not the 3D element which you're struggling with.
For me, it is an obvious choice, but you aren't me HighwindDeath. Wink I'd just urge you to consider alternatives as well.

As a guy who does have 3DS, I'll say this. Currently, it is not worth it. A lack of good games kind of ruin it for now. Of course, if you look at titles that will be released for the future, and get your 3DS for that reason, then yeah, it'll probably be worth it. I haven't played on my 3DS much due to no 3DS games that really are enticing me at the moment, but once those big names hit, I'll be jumping on them.

And Zero's question about how much you really want the 3DS of course applies...So take your pick.
