y'know, a 2nd analog pad feels just as right on a handheld console as a first one.
idk though, perhaps that statement was just made behind some sort of Nintendo hate, as when Sony does it, it's "ZOMG AWESOME!!" but when Nintendo does it, it's "meh, who cares... it doesn't seem right anyway". I'm not saying your guilty of such an attitude Highwind, but it is rather interesting that the thought comes up in a 3DS thread and not a Vita thread o_O

To some extent though, the types of games that are on Sony and Nintendo's handhelds are different. I speculate that maybe Vita could need two analogues whereas 3DS games do not (This isn't particularly my view, but I could understand some one else having such a stance).

Nintendo certainly must've ruled out the 2 analogues possibility when initially designing the console (unless their market strategy was to grab more money from people buying the add on/a newer iteration)

Unless a bunch of games use it I see it being like the MotionPlus, honestly. Used if necessary but not integrated into the system itself.

I simply feel like Nintendo has been reluctant to change to multiple analogues. Everyone was blown away with the N64 controller, but the days of strafing around were numbered from the beginning. If Nintendo seriously wants multidimensional games, then I need to be able to run and turn within one fluid motion.

EXACTLY. It feels more correct on the Vita, because the majority of PS3 rely on 2 analog sticks. Part of the reason I don't think it'll feel right is because it's an add-on.

I have to disagree, considering that most third party devs are supporting the attachment. It just goes to show that it is wanted not just by users but by designers themselves and it's not so much an issue of whether it 'feels right' or not. A second analog stick opens up the amount of options with what devs can do mechanics-wise. Capcom clearly wanted it for Monster Hunter 4, there's no way they're going to release a main numbered Monster Hunter without a second analog stick for 3D camera control. Now games like KH3D, MGS3D, Ace Combat, Dynasty Warriors (thank goodness, Samurai Warriors was shit without camera control), Resident Evil and the like are throwing support behind the attachment.

While I personally feel like Nintendo dropped the ball with the 3DS, and this announcement was just another facepalm moment, I still think the 3DS is in dire need of the attachment.

I guess your argument is correct... But it stands that I will most likely NOT be purchasing a 3DS any time soon. My money is more towards a Vita... BUT I REALLY WISH SQUARE HAD STUCK WITH SONY AND PUT KH3D ON THE VITA. In my experience, KH doesn't really look great on Nintendo platforms, namely CoM, and 358/2 Days.

I don't know, I see it as a way for them to compete (on some level at least) with the Vita when it comes to shooters, etc.. The games that Colin listed will no doubt have the capability to use both sticks. The issue will be that developers will have to make a game that is playable with just one stick for those who don't want to spend $80 on the peripheral, which in an odd, catch-22 style way kinda cancels the peripheral out.
