Just a suggested book. I really like it, it's probably one of my favorite books. Taking place around 2044, where a MMO called OASIS pretty much is the world, it's pretty great. There is a lot of 80s culture throughout the book, and it fits the book greatly. Look it up, because I really like it.
Wasn't sure where to put the thread, so I put it here.

Sounds interesting. I'm not much for reading but the concept reminds me of many great anime/movies I've seen like Denno Coil (Coil - A Circle of Children).

Is it people hooked to an MMO like Surrogates/Matrix/.hack, or do they live and breath in an MMO like environment?

As for the location to post it, you're in the right place.

They still live on earth, but the MMO has taken over so much that they don't really care about the planet, and focus only on OASIS. The planet had an energy crisis, so there isn't much power, and a tons of cars lying around. The MMO is huge, the book says thousands of worlds in a sector of the game, and there are 36 sectors. And apparently there is barely any lag. The plot if for the main character Wade Watts to win a competition to win billions of dollars. The maker of the game puts his money in a will that basically says that you have to find the "Golden Egg" by completing three gates. The MMO has a bunch of 80s nerd culture about movies ie Monty Python, Holy Grail and others. Also a bunch of arcade games and classic references. Very awesome IMO.

Ah ok, that clarifies. Sounds really interesting (and possible sadly hah). At some point you probably discover the game is actually an expansion from the new MMO "Starcraft Online" *Gasp*.

I'm not much a reader but that sounds like something I'd want to read. Thanks for the suggestion!

Sounds like a book I would love.

Anyone of the forum would probably love it. So many game references.

I saw this book on the shelf at a store and knew I HAD to get it. I received it for Christmas and haven't read it yet, but I am very much looking forward to it. Seems like it would make a great movie someday as well!
