hmmmm out of all honesty, I thought the demo was lame and really boring. Sure, it was a long demo and had sidequests and hidden treasures so it was pretty surprising and I thought it fun. However, I thought that the random battle thing was really annoying. Normally in FF games, if you walk around, you get caught with a battle. But in 13-2. Even if you stand still for about 20 seconds, you get a random battle. Blood damage was an interesting concept and I liked the added difficulty especially since Square removed the Paradigm shift time and also enabled you to change party leaders if one died. I thought the Monster party thing was pretty cool but it was kinda sad since I was hitting less than half the damage the monster was hitting (the hoplite) but it was still pretty cool. Another qualm I had was the crystarium. It's pretty innovative as it helps people who prefer characters who specialize in some jobs, but I personally prefer the older one. But since this was just based on a demo, I can't really judge it til I get it later this month.

Finally got around to playing it. I\'d like to add that the demo has been truncated to a certain degree, some story segments and cutscenes have been left out.

I personally think that Square have gone too far with the visual effects. XIII was a very flashy game but it never got overwhelming due to the camera usually keeping its distance.
XIII-2, from what I've seen, seems to have turned up the flashiness and got the camera more involved - especially in the cinematic battle sequences.
I noticed it most in the start of trailer at the end of the demo when Lightning is fighting Caius. You could barely see the button prompts due to all the effects and the camera flying all over the place.
I know it's very much in the visual style of XIII but I think they could tone it down slightly and it would be easier on the eyes and probably just as good.

I also found the the Crystaruim to be a tangled mess. The only issue wit the one from XIII was the level capping. You can\'t tell what the bonuses in XIII-2\'s Crystarium are except for the new abilities.

Why add Gil and take away weapon upgrading? The only thing that was infuriating about upgrading weapons was farming for Platinum Ingots to buy material.

SE tried to please everyone and just over did it on some areas which didn\'t need fixing.

Haven't checked it out yet, because I'd like to know, how spoileriffic is it? To someone who's on Chapter 11 of FFXIII.

I know who the main character is, though.

I held off on playing the demo until I beat 13. I beat it last night and beat the demo and found that playing it wouldn't have really ruined anything. You pop out of the time gate without getting much in the way of a storyline. You just learn that society is working on rebuilding itself, which you should already know if you've seen anything about the game.

Thanks I'm enjoying XIII so I might give the demo a go over the weekend.

Not bad but not particularly good either. It isn\'t enough for me to want to buy it. Though it did make me want Versus for some reason!

I understand it making you want Versus even more. I want Square to be done with the 13 IP and give us the other stuff they've been working on. I don't really have any attachement to the 13 universe aside from Lightning who is a pretty cool character, at least compared to the rest of the cast.
