I was talking to Colin about the dungeons being like mazes yesterday. With the internet right at my fingers, it's too tempting to look up a map. I know there'll be chests and I know there'll be a tonne of empty rooms... Plus I have a deadline to catch up to! Tongue

and then there are those of us who have played the game so many times that you don't need a map to get around the game ^_^

btw, those who are trying to avoid going online to search for maps to get through, know this: The original NES version was packaged with all the maps, charts for magic, weapons, and armor, and iirc, a complete beastiary. So don't feel too guilty having to look for maps (just remember that the maps were not originally marked, except for maybe showing chest locations, but not what was in them)

Thanks for quelling my guilty conscience. XD

well, if anyone is having a guilty conscience here, it should be for playing anything other than the original or the MSX remake Big Grin but seeing as the improvements in the WSC and PS1 version truly do make it better, that itself can be forgiven ^_^;

Got to the checkpoint last night, a very short one really. I retrieved the second crystal and I\'ve just bought Lv. 5 magic for white and black mages. I found Lich to be a piece of cake as I remembered the Cavern of the Earth so I had little encounters.

However, Mt. Gulg was a different story. I had so many encounters in the Canoe and then inside the dungeon I had almost 20 - 40 encounters a floor. I finally reached Marilith and exhausted most of items on healing. My thief died way too easily in the battle, I had just finished casting Haste and Temper on him and BAM, he was dead. Luckily, I had a couple of Pheonix Downs but he turned into my item user because I wasn\'t wasting any more turns on using Temper and Haste again.

My warrior with an Ice Brand with Haste and Temper, managed to deal enough damage for me to win in the end with all 4 intact.

And yes, I agree that the maps are maze like, but I became loaded after Mt.Gulg! I went with 20000 Gil and came out over 100,000 Gil! The chests gave loads of gil and I had so many battles, it will make shopping so much easier for a little while.

Current party level: 24

EDIT: I forgot to say this earlier but has anyone found at this point of the game that the Warrior of Light has loads of armour and weapons available to him, while the thief can wear a few light things and a couple of swords and the black and white mages only get light armour and spells. I found that this makes them like paper compared to my Warrior of Light. The warrior is the only member of my team not to die yet.

Tip for people wanting to avoid random encounters...You don't get random encounters while running on lava in Mt.Gulg XD (didn't say it wasn't gonna hurt Tongue)

I can't say I've ever noticed that before. You've tested this extensively?

I can second Varnis' tip...

I've not found the dungeons too bad... I'm using an emulator, so I can speed my way through the random encounters Blush

Saved last night in one of the treasure rooms in Mt Gulug, should be finishing up at lunch time. Is the second crystal just the storyline point of where we have to stop? Ie, can we make our way out of Mt Gulug in preparation for next week?

I would imagine you would have to. not everybody can save inside dungeons, right? at which point, you are more then welcome to exit the dungeon and go around grinding/gathering more items just as long as you don't progress in the game
