Default Multi-Disc Final Fantasy XIII On 360 Looking Likely

So, I wrote this article which appears to have created quite a storm. Here's an excerpt from it:-

Quote:
Anyone who bought The Last Remnant on Thursday will have noticed one blatantly obvious thing, it comes on two discs. Now, this might not be that concerning to too many people, but it could hint that this could be the way things will be done in the future.
Multi-Disc Final Fantasy XIII On 360 Looking Likely

Thoughts?

This could prove to be either potentually problemaic, or a charm for the latest installment for the series. It really depends on how they cut the game, as if such a thing is not done right, it will hurt the story.

Because the disc size of a PS3 is circa 50gb and XBOX only 8gb, I knew as soon as XIII was anounced for 360 () that it was inevitable that this would happen. Some people have been secretly pleased about the multi-disc situation as it has been a part of Final Fantasy, even if only a minor part. Unfortunately, though, I doubt that SE will change the story at all because of this. In other FFs enticing cliffhangers were deliberately left at the end of discs. But with the PS3 not needing multi-disc then this won't happen. SE will do their best to make the disc changes acceptable within realistic perameters.

It was only the Playstation One generation that ever had multi-discs and all the other games were fine.

If you lose a disc, or one stops working....you're pretty much screwed.

And that just so happens to be the biggest problem with Multi-Disc games. As long as you take good care of your own games, and don't have shady characters enter your gaming area, you should have no reason to worry about losing the disks. Having a disk stop working on the other hand is a sad ordeal indeed. I still havn't beaten Legend of Dragoon.

And actually ronin90, There were a couple PS2 games that were 2 discs. One I know for sure is Star Ocean: Till The End of Time. I do believe that Resident Evil 4 was also 2 discs long.

I am sure that you are awear that Gamecube and Xbox 360 also had multi-disc games.

I was referring specifically to Final Fantasy games with my statement.

I see. My falt for not realizing that.
But yea, at that point, only 3 games in the in the series had ever been Multi-Disc, and that was the PS1 generation games, including the PC versions of 7 and 8.

It shouldn't really matter too much, as long as they don't edit it to squeeze it onto one disc. I think its highly unlikely they'll do that let alone even consider it. Multiple discs look extremely likely I doubt it will affect sales in one way or the other though, its not exactly a travesty to have to change the disc after about 20 hours + of gameplay.

I could see it now.

Oh no!!! I just went though 20+ hours of gameplay and now I have to change the disc, which will take 10 seconds to a minute out of my precious game time. This is indeed the most horrible thing to ever happen to a game since 8-bit
Sadly, thats not an exageration. I actually know people who would probobly react like that.
