Criterion are something of an anomaly amongst developers, as while others will try to leech you for every penny you have even for the most minor of expansions, Criterion have slaved away and provided two fairly substantial updates free of charge. The most recent update - titled Davis - cannot be underestimated, as not only did it add a load of new events, challenges, weather effects and day/night racing, it also added bikes to the Burnout franchise for the first time.
![]() The fact this expansion was free was a massive bonus to Burnout fans all around the world, as anyone who has downloaded the new update and played it probably thinks it's great too. Personally, I'm unsure whether I actually want to use cars in that game again, as driving those bikes around at high speed is just way too fun. After a short time of playing it though, I just couldn't help thinking of one thing... Road Rash. I may be alone when I say that both Road Rash and Road Rash II were brilliant games for their time, but after those two, the franchise went down hill considerably. Road Rash 64 was pretty dire, and Road Rash: Jailbreak was a new low. However, there is still hope as ScrewAttack's Video Game Vault of Road Rash is the most popular one they've ever done in terms of views - even beating Mike Tyson's Punch Out - so the popularity of Road Rash clearly can't be underestimated. ![]() There is also the fact that EA, who own Criterion, also own the Road Rash franchise and after seeing what Criterion can do with bikes in such a short space of time, I would relish the chance of them being given the opportunity to create a new Road Rash title because up until now, I didn't think anyone could re-create such a natural feeling arcade bike game. While I love Burnout, I would love to see Criterion get their teeth into a new Road Rash title even more. Hopefully EA will answer our prayers. |

Road Rash 2 has to be one of the best games out there. My whole childhood was surrounding that game. It also taught me so many important life lessons like: P.E.No.1 will always be a bitch.

I use to play the original Road Rash growing up. One thing always bothered me about the cartrage: Why did Electronic Arts design there cartrages differently from most Genesis cartrages?
Everytime think about the idea of a new Road Rash, I always seem to think that they need to do an honest rehash of the original. This would mean throwing in the original cast, with favorites such as Natasha, Slater, and Biff (Man oh man how i hate Biff). Instead of making it a straight through racing game though, they should make is a story based game with a free roam environment simular to Need For Speed Carbon. They should also add the ability to dismount your bike in this free roam mode, as well as get into fist fights with other bikers. |

Ahh Road Rash, my first taste of street racing violence. Haha, it would be pretty neat if Criterion took a stab at that franchise. Think they'll include crashes that involve human bodies?

It depends what audience they're aiming for.

I can't see a good Road Rash game being rated anything under T (13+ for you non americans). But I could see them going as harsh as making a game that winds up with an M (17+) rating.

I can't believe people actually remember Road Rash. I digged that game back when I had a Genesis.
I tried the most recent burnout; It was fun, but this topic reminded me about RR and nothing can ever top that. |
