Almost 9 years. The gap between Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XIII. In between we got XI - a MMO which alienated most loyal Final Fantasy fans and XII - a game which many fans also disliked due to a departure from traditional RPG gameplay and the lack of a compeling story. Final Fantasy XIII shows a return to elements fans enjoy and what seems to be a good story.
But the next Installment, XIV, is a MMO similiar to XI. The last time there was a MMO in the series, it led to a large gap of 5 years between proper installments of the series. Final Fantasy X and XII. What appears to be a pattern has emerged in the series. A good game (X, XIII), a MMO (XI, XIV) and then a bad game (XII). The first 2 parts have already been fufilled in this pattern with the third one still in doubt. However my question is if anybody else worried about the quality and production time for XV going by these patterns?

Well its really early stages in the "pattern" at the moment, and it isn't really evident that there is a pattern at all. If we were on the third or fourth cycle things may be different but I'm not really worried... yet. :/

Although I do fear for the series in general (I'm currently playing FF VIII and falling in love with it all over again) you are missing one thing: Versus XIII and although we haven't seen gameplay footage as yet, I really have high hopes for it.
(There is also agito XIII too) But yeah, i'm worried that the traditional JRPG is dying out and we'll be seeing a lot of different stuff in the coming years. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing... I'm not sure.

I don't care about Final Fantasy all that much. The only final fantasy I own is 7, and I haven't even gone past the first disc. I'll get versus 13, but only because it's made by the same people that made kingdom hearts.

Oh yeah I totally forgot about Versus myself! I also thing Versus XIII will be great and have always preferred the lokk of it to XIII. Where does that fit into the pattern?

*cough* I think I'm defeated with Versus.
Okay I'm going to try to salvage something from this thread. Let's swing it towards "Are you worried about the production time of Final Fantasy XV?" A big gap between between installments is becoming common. Are people willing to continue waiting this long between installments? Or something like that...

Nothing we can do but wait.. The development time/cycle is something that Square-enix in particular are suffereing from big time. Hence they are trying to make different games. We will just have to use that time playing other great games and doing other things like we have done this time around.
By that time though, I'll be almost 30 years old lol.... And still gaming ^_^

Simple Answer: Yes, I am worried. Not about FFXV in particular but where the franchise is heading in general and the time gaps. Ever since XI came out...which I didn't play, I've been worried. Square Enix are really testing their fanbase. I'm actually expecting FFXIII to be a disappointment, probably because FFXII was. Versus actually looks promising...guess we'll see.

You have to remember to be open minded in gaming. Try new games out in between good JRPGs, and then time will fly until FF XV. I am a huge fan of Gran Turismo, so trust me, I'm a veteran at waiting. xd
As for where the franchise is headed, I'm not ready to worry about it yet. There is no strong evidence that FF is going down the pan, at least until FF XIII comes out we won't know. As soccerdude says though, if FF XIII is a disappointment, then its time to worry. Although still, even if XIII is a 'failure', Versus XIII could pull it back. Then if Versus is more popular, perhaps Square will go down that route?
