Default Dissidia: Final Fantasy Discussion

Square has updated the official Dissidia site, with STORY and CHARACTERS. Hopefully we'll get a translation soon, since it's all in japanese.

There is also a new trailer for it, and it's like mighty impressive if you ask me.

Man, Square Enix do love their flash websites. I wonder why they've only put up profiles for 8 characters, then they've announced a lot more.

My friends are abuzz about this upcoming PSP game, but I don't really get why. It just seems to me like it's a cheesy Tekken-esque game with a jumbled up story. I am sure I am missing the point but my friends haven't come up with a decent comeback to explain the game's point or relevance. Could someone please tell me where I'm going wrong?

I don't think anyone apart from the media really knows if the gameplay is actually going to work. From the gameplay videos I've seen, it doesn't look overly promising to be honest.

The press have been lavishing praise on it though, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

That's what I mean. There are just loads of mixed messages about the game. I suppose it is always likely to be a hit in Japan, but as you say, I guess the final release will tell all...

Well, the press will be treated to a 6 player demo at TGS, so hopefully more insight about the product will be posted around.

It's to be expected that it's going to have a jumbled up story, it is a fighting game with characters who come from what are essentially (partially confirmed by FFXII's Gilgamesh, I'll go into it if asked) from different dimensions. I think it's going to be ruined for a lot of people if they are expecting differently just because it has characters who come from games known for storylines. Kind of like how a lot of people hated Spirits Within not because it sucked as a stand-alone movie, but because it didn't meet the standards of what it's associated with.

Personally I don't care much about it because I'm not too big on fighting games. The most interesting thing for me so far was the character redesigns, some are pretty slick.

I wonder what type of fighting game it's going to be: a button masher or a "this sequence of buttons will do this, this sequence of buttons will do that". :P

Well, apparently the story is going to be pretty full-on. So it might be worth looking into if only for the story.
