Not surprising. Nintendo goods always sell well at the beginning. Nintendo's fanbase is rabid. Then there's the fact that the 3DS launched without competitors while the vita launched with a competitor.

I'm not surprised either. I think the Vita will ultimately make money for Sony, but I doubt it will ever reach the market penetration that the PSP did over its lifetime. I think too many people are satisfied with phone games for that to happen.

which is unfortunate becuase there is not a single iphone game I have played that makes me want to ditch my PSP or 3DS. They barley keep my attention.
though I'm not planning on getting a Vita (I have a 3ds) I hope they do well. Competition will be good for both handhelds.

Me either. I still haven't played an iPhone game or a social game just because none of them draw my interest.

I personally think it did pretty darn well considering the market is riddled with reduced price 3DS's, and that it's coming into a competitor realm.

I am saddened to hear of freezes, but there's not enough info here to harp on that.

Phone games are simply more convenient. Who would want to bring a psp everywhere? Conversely, who intentionally leaves their cell phone home without good reason? Who wants to play an epic like Uncharted: Golden Abyss while walking on the sidewalk, or waiting a mere 10 minutes? Who wants to play a game for an hour before the battery dies, instead of playing while plugged into the wall? Who would want to spend 300 dollars on a handheld when the full fledged console is cheaper?

From what I find, most psp/3DS gamers don't actually game on the go. They play on their couch in the living room. Why bother do that when there are PS3s, 360s and Wiis? The only reasons left to buy proper handhelds are the fact that some games like KH3D are only available on a handheld, or the buyer is perpetually stuck in one place that isn't his house for several hours at a time.

That sounds like me entirely. I only travel a few times a year when I'm not the one driving, so playing on the road or in the air is rare. If I play my PSP or DS, it's on the couch, with the system plugged into the wall. Heck, if I'm playing the PSP, I usually have it plugged into my TV. Big Grin

Back on to the topic, I'm not surprised at all with the Vita launch failure. Playstation products almost always require a major patch as soon as they're released, and for that reason entirely I won't be purchasing a Vita until a couple months after launch so I'm sure that the big bugs are worked out.

I have to say that I agree with everything that Aaron said. I think these are some of the main reasons that I just can't get into handheld gaming any more, especially considering that I don't rely on public transport to take me anywhere any more.

I understand where you guys are coming from, but what about having button control and a d-pad? As long as handheld consoles are the only option for having actual buttons and analogs to control portable games with I don't think I will ever switch to phone gaming.

Also, for me personally, I tend to have a backpack or bag with me most of the time (since I teach school for a living), so carrying around an extra device isn't a hassle like it is for some people.
