You want it? You got it! The Members Spotlight is back by popular demand!

This is a feature that has graced our forums for many years and, originally lead by Sam, helped our Unionite community get to know each other a whole lot better. The premise is simple: Every few weeks a handful of volunteers will be thrust into the spotlight, requiring them to answer questions asked by others in the community in their own Spotlight thread! The idea is that you get to know things about people that you might not have ever learnt before.

Sounds like something you'd be interested in? Well, hold your horses because there are a few ground-rules to keep in mind...

1. If you wish to sign up for a spotlight, you must do so in this thread. It's the only place that I'll be taking notice of. You'll be added to a waiting list on a first come first served basis. Asking repeatedly will not move you up the list any faster, so once your name is on there, you do not need ask again!
2. When you're up for the next round of spotlights, you will be given a week's notice via PM. You MUST send a reply to confirm you are prepared to respond otherwise your turn will be given to someone else & you'll have to sign up all over again! Please don't waste your turn!
3. It is a requirement for all people who want to have a spotlight to post questions for other people. If you never send questions, you will never get questions. If I feel your activity in this feature is too low when your spotlight comes around, then I'll let you know via PM and delay your turn til the next round or it will be forfeited.
4. Generally, you can look back to the archive to see what sorts of questions have been previously asked, but any thing within reason is allowed. A spotlight member has the right to refuse to answer something if they feel it's too personal. I trust you're all mature enough to govern yourselves on this.
5. Members who are spotlighted are free to answer their questions however they see fit. They can answer each question as it comes in, or wait for a few days and answer them in large chunks. It's worth noting that you aren't restricted to just text! You could also post links, images, video, whatever you like! These are your spotlights so take the chance to shine!
6. For the time being, once you have had your Spotlight, you are not allowed to re-apply for another round, unless I make an announcement contrary to this.
7. All questions about the nature of this feature should go into this thread, so feel free to ask if you're confused or want to know something which I haven't already explained.

I presume that one who has already had a turn at member spotlight becomes ineligible to have future turns. Am I correct? It seems like something that should be made clear.

Thanks Aaron, good question that I hadn't thought of. I'll add it to the opening post.

This is a completely new run at it. If you had a spotlight in the previous series then it's entirely fine to sign up this time around.

As this is first come first served basis, I'm assuming that it's unlikely that a person would be able to get two turns very close together anyway, but yeah, it's not really in the spirit of things if the same people keep applying. If it comes to it, I will announce if/when people are allowed to take a second turn.

hmm... I don't see that anywhere in the rules myself... it looks more to me like this is a fresh thing, although maybe there is going to be some sort of limit so that people don't try to hog the spotlight list (such as previous people being put in the backlist if they want to go again, kinda like the original...

that being said, I'm game, seeing as I was sitting on the backlist of the previous one ^_^

To clarify: This Members Spotlight is separate from the old ones. If you had a Spotlight back then, you are entirely free to sign up again now.

I did suggest this to be brought back in the feedback(a lot pf people agreed to my suggestion even though you were going to bring it back anyway). I wouldn't mind signing up it sounds like something I might enjoy.

Hmmmmm could you sign me up please? I need to know who I really know from the newer members and the members who are still here to see how much work I need to do to get to know people lol. And just a random thought, didn't some people who had a spotlight in the past go twice? (not saying I will, just saying since Aaron seems to be against it)
