I understand why the ESA "has" to back this, but I'm not sure why the individual publishers would.

The more I think about it, I reckon these companies are just saying this for a publicity stunt more than anything. Like don't get me wrong, they are a big company, no doubt. It's just that I fail to see how much of a difference they will make in the big picture of proceedings.

Perhaps if enough of the members started trouncing the bill, the ESA would have to back down in full. That would be a huge blow to the SOPA campaign.

The bill still has plenty of support, but in the gaming industry front, it would be no doubt huge.

I'm finding this trend that game companies are trying to paint themselves as fence-post parties in this whole ordeal so if the shit hits the fan, they can at least fall back on the notion that "hey, at least we weren't 100% supporting this bill..."
