One of the most asked theoretical topics, and yet no thread having been made for it? Now...That's just wrong.XD

So, the situation is that you will be stranded on an 100 mile-wide island as part of a extreme-survival test. The island has nearly the bare minimum to keep someone alive, with the only living thing on the island being one fruit tree and whatever small sea animals you can find on the coast. There is only one source of fresh water, which is located on the highest peak on a mountain in the middle of the island. There is no way off the island without external help, which won't come until 20 years later from when you are stranded. You have to try to survive as best as you can. The questions are...

What is the one object you would bring to the island to help you survive?
Who is the one person that you would want to bring with you to help you survive?
Seeing as how this is a gaming community, what's the one game and console you would bring to keep you entertained? (Assuming there was a TV and electricity for just those things and those things only)

Breaking out the classics! Cool

The hardest one to answer - initially I'd have said my Kindle but the electricity is magic and only works for TV and video games! It's hard to think of something that wouldn't simply run out as well. So I'm going to go for my armchair in my living room. I wouldn't want to try and fall asleep on a rock or the sand. Plus it's my gaming armchair, so it'd come in handy for later. Tongue

I'm going to go completely standard here and say my girlfriend. Not just because she's my girlfriend though, she's also a second-year student nurse so she will actually help me survive. We'll have been together for 3 years in May and I know for a fact that I wouldn't want anyone else with me.

I've surprised myself with my choice, which is going to be the original Pokémon Red on my old GBA SP. Nostalgia factor, epic boredom-killing and a Nuzlocke challenge will be more than enough to keep my gaming needs satisfied. Can I swap the TV out for something else? Tongue

I must admit, I wanted to post to this thread, but I couldn't bring myself to look past the improper use of the word 'stranded'. No matter how interpreted, there's a redundancy in there, somewhere. I think kid meant to say something along the lines of "Stuck on a Deserted Island" However, I finally worked up the will power necessary to submit my thoughts.

For person, it would by our good friend on the forums, Colin. Having been in the army, he likely has survival and combat training.

For item, probably a hatchet or a survival knife.

For console, assuming there is an internet connection, a psp so I may use skype to keep myself sane by talking to people. (even though they apparently won't be able to rescue me) Without internet connection, I'd choose a backwards compatible ps3 so I may play Kingdom Hearts all day long, as well as a few other gems like Uncharted.

I think that my answer would depend heavily on the type of island, and its relative position to the equator. If there is a mountain, but nothing living around the mountain then I'm really confused, because mountains generally generate the types of conditions that are ideal for plant-growth, so there should be more than just one tree. Also there should be run-off from the mountain, not to mention you can get water from the respiration of trees, and by distilling urine. I guess I'd want a standard survival kit, but if I can't have that I'll just take a really durable plastic bag. I would take a game cube, tear it in half and use the shell to create a container for me to save pee, then I'd put the bag over it, and leave it in the sun. The freshwater would condense on the bag, and fill up if you left a loop. I would take no one with me, as the island has been described as spare, and unlikely to even support one person for 20 years, let alone two.

I'd probably curl up in a ball and die under those conditions... but if I tried and didn't loophole by saying "one object I'd take to help survive is NewYork City" then...

I'd take Bear Grylls with me cause he's epic and my one object would be a machete. I would trick Bear into believing he's being filmed for a new reality show "Never Die Island" and his role was to keep us both alive long enough for rescue. But don't tell him how long. I'd then proceed to play endless hours of Valkyria Chronicles as my choice of Game/Console.

But again.. I'd probably curl in a ball and die. 20 years is a LONG time. Without most medicines or aid our bodies have come accustom too, most people wouldn't last a year hehe

A basket ball, whom I will name Wilson.
(probably chapstick, there is really nothing I hate more than chapped, sunburnt lips)

Who is the one person that you would want to bring with you to help you survive?
If I had a significant other, they would be my first choice. But since I don't, I'd bring my friend Katie because she's strong mentally, and while I'm freaking the f out, she'll be there to tell me to shut up and tell Spalding to catch us a fish. And I've camped without a tent with her before.

I think a backwards compatible PS3 so I can have the majority of my collection.

definitely I would bring my knife and books. Knife, because it is necessary if the Island is too dangerous. Book, just to divert your attention to reality.

Person! nahh, I don't think I could bring anyone, I'm afraid to take responsibility.

Assuming I have signal on that Island, probably I would bring my PSP or my computer and I would play my favorite game kingdom hearts.
