This is cool! Digital distribution could become the next 'console race'

I had exactly the same thought a few hours ago, lol. I started playing the Reckoning demo when it occurred to me that EA has really REALLY been picking up the pace on game releases. Then i remembered origin. And then it all came together: EA is trying to come up to par with console devs, but instead of joining the console wars they are going to start the DD wars against the current dominator, Valve. Be prepared pc gamers, the fact that digital versions of ME3 are restricted to Origin might the software the boost it needs to start DD wars.

The stars shine brightest when all is dark.

Except Mass Effect 3 is available at retail too. It's an inconvenience that most would rather not have to deal with, some have even opted for the console versions instead to avoid installing Origin on their systems. Having to log into Origin to play Reckoning, a single player RPG, is pretty annoying. The same goes for doing it on Steam, it's just slightly less intrusive.

I couldn't hop into BF3 last night because Origin kept failing to boot up when prompted. As a service, I feel that it still has a very long way to go. Their terms of service have also been rather questionable.

I'm surprised The Old Republic doesn't require Origin to boot. I thought EA would've capitalized on that, thank goodness they didn't.
