And it's not like Square Enix can't do a Final Fantasy with a stylistically different aesthetic, granted critics may not like it, but if it's a good game I don't see why that should matter.
Games like Metal Gear Solid are hyper-realistic, but still have a fair amount of humour. Assassin's Creed has an incredibly involving narrative, but still has humour. Uncharted all the more so, great hyper-real visuals, but plenty of humour (of course the direction is completely different from an FF game, but since we're talking about how visuals influences humour, I thought I'd bring it up.) And it's not like the humour in these games are limited to their dialogue, it's all in their actions, and the situations they find themselves in, as well.
I don't think Square Enix's problem is with the visuals, it's more so with the writing. Just look at XIII.
Hehe, that was my whole point. I guess I didn't explain it well enough.
Humor can be created in 3 ways. Visually by using silly animations similar to that of a cartoon. Vocally by dialog that's witty or a joke. Or by Attitude done by sarcasm or motions.
My point is that since FFX, they havn't really been able to fit in Visual humor anymore. Except for maybe a punch over the head, or a trip.
I agree though, the writing has been pretty stinky lately. I thought they did really well with Crystal Chronicles. Here's hoping they can bring some of that wittiness to FF15.
