Yesterday when I finished my classes I forgot that I didn't put my receipt in the Jak and Daxter HD collection(great so far). So I took out the game case and put the receipt in it, I did this in front of my teacher. His response to seeing a video game was "you still play video game that's for kids Dennis."

He asked my classmates if they still played video games to prove that I was being a kid for still playing video games(now not many people said they do because a good chunk of the students were international and don't seem to play any games at all), there were around 10 of a 25 said that they do. He was shocked that people still play video games because he believes that they are just for kids.

Now he is part of that generation that doesn't really understand what video games and the internet really are to the Generation Y and Z(maybe Generation X it's dependent on the person of that Generation). The video game industry is a very profitable, I could say even more than the Movie and Music industry. Your never too old to play video game, it's a art form that is really appreciated by me and so many of my friends.

So what do you guys think of people who think that video games are just for kids.

The man obviously doesn't know about all the people of all ages that play video games. I recall posting a link to a yahoo news article about a 99 year old woman who games. I know people in their 50s who still play games. It's not an uncommon thing. Also, anybody who plays through Jak 2 and Jak 3 can tell ya that they are not really for kids ^_^

My girlfriend says that I really need to grow up and stop playing video games. She believes that someone my age - I'm just 22 for God's sake - is too old to for such rubbish and that it isn't normal for me to still be intrested in them. She said that it's a waste of money, blah blah blah. So I just shrug and continue playing. Well, I even have a friend who has two kids and plays CoD MW3 with his 40 year-old neighbor all the time.

Maybe the real issue at the heart of this dispute is that your teacher feels you're neglecting your studies for the sake of video games. But I can never be so sure. I think that we will only be too old for video games if we don't have the time to play it. What I mean is that as we grow older, we take up more responsibilities and we have to prioritize things. Realistically, IMO, video games would not be so high on the list. It's just that growing older limits your time with video games but it does not mean you have to stop. Why don't you wait for your (future) kids to grow up and then you'll have someone to play with.

Video games have always had these stigmas about them. Truth be told though, last study I heard was that the majority of gamers are late 20s and early 30s. The children of gaming past are adults of gaming today. I think that's why gaming has gotten so huge. Kids that used to beg their parents for games are now buying them from their own paychecks now.

As for regarding it as 'bad' to play video games. I run into this now and then. Honestly I've been living with it my whole life that I stopped caring. There will always be ignorant people that regard things they don't understand with some kind of negativity. I've had people mock me for "always playing video games" while they sit in front of the TV all evening. What's the difference? It's just like any other hobby. And yes like any other hobby, you can let it get out of hand. That's always been the choice.

You know my teacher that I'm talking about is my college professor, I'm almost 20 and I get marks over 80 in the 2 classes I have him with. He is a great guy and a good teacher as well. Sometimes I have to disagree with him form his perspective. Video games make life easier to go through for me personally I need a break from studying all the time. I buy a lot of video games throughout the year that is only to balance out all the studying I have to do.

I'm not neglecting my studies one bit I spend time at school more so then I'm at home with my PS3. I have responsibilities as well, but I can balance them out as well. On an ending note I am a gamer so gaming is what I love and I don't want to stop. If I did then my life would be dull.

Any sort of merchandise is for any and all people who choose to buy it. When you get right down to it, nothing is exclusive to any particular group. The most one can do is 'target' a 'group' as a marketing/business decision. The fact that games are an art form has little to do with it.

Think of it like this; a store shelf contains a baseball. The baseball may be purchased by any customer who wants it. The baseball is, logically, for absolutely anyone. The only time something is ever exclusive to a particular group is when it requires a minimum age like 18 for someone to purchase it.

And, of course, your professor simply believes in hierarchical segregation. He doesn't believe that games shouldn't mix with older people; he believes that older people shouldn't mix with games. Don't confuse the two concepts.

Well seeing as I am 27 I sure hope they are not just for kids. I find that games are good escape from the stress of the real world, although sometimes the games add stress themselves Tongue.

It's not just for kids! Tongue Heck, I wasn't even allowed to play games when I was younger. And my parent's sometimes give me hell for it now too. But I give them the 'I'm 18, it's my money and my PS3' and that usually quiets them. Everybody has their own stereotypes they believe in. Your teacher possibly thought after kids graduate they give up games and focus on college and other things. I used to believe that games were meant for older kids and adults. (mainly because there aren't many good E games. Before you say Kingdom Hearts, I wasn't allowed to play it Sad.)

Also, it's already been mentioned but I want to bring it up again, when you get older you have more responsibilities (kids, marriage, job, etc.) and have little or no time to play. And even sometimes people grow out of it. But more power to those who keep up with it! For me, it helps me deal with my stress and depression disorders, it helps me to get lost in someone else's life for a while and forget my own troubles. Trust me it helps Smile

But age never matters now a'days Smile Do what you want, you live your life, live it the way you want and be happy. I'll shut up now...

It's mainly due to adults being given the image that a video game...is a form of toy...which kids play with Tongue
