Quote:The demo for Konami's Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater hit the Nintendo eShop earlier last week, and much to the dismay of many a Big Boss fan, the game wasn't exactly mind blowing, especially in the visuals department. Don't misunderstand, it is undoubtedly one of the better looking games on the 3DS, but did you try out the Resident Evil: Revelations demo? Snake's got some stiff competition, but I digress. The issue isn't that the game looks terrible. Not at all, it looks great, it just doesn't look any better than its original PS2 counterpart.

So...more of a port than a remake then...I'm still fine with that, seeing as I never played it the first time around...

I don't think that the 3D Metal Gears belong on portable systems, or at least not ones without dual analog controls.

Not really a port, according to them it's a full remake. Fans can tell that it looks different, their faces are sharper, slightly more detailed, but nothing like the tech demo they showed at E3 2010. The gameplay mechanics are mostly new as it controls like Peace Walker, and the touchscreen lets you swap between weapons, items, camouflage, all without pausing the game. Their voices have also been re-recorded if I'm not wrong. It's a remake alright, just directed exactly the same way as the original, and sadly the visuals aren't that much better.

Ooh, gonna have to disagree with you on that. Portable Ops and Peace Walker were great. The latter much more so despite the lack of a second analog stick. Besides, Snake Eater 3D's compatible with the circle pad attachment. Tongue

For sure. Peace Walker in the HD Collection on PS3 is a godsend.

Oops. Haha. Peace Walker is a good game, but I don't think it belongs on a portable system. All of the PSP Metal Gear games were really good games, but they all would have been MUCH MUCH more playable and enjoyable for me with two analog sticks.

Haha I can see where you're coming from. For me, I think it's perfect on a portable device. The platform itself served as a direction for the game design, which is why the missions all come in bite size pieces. The local co-op is brilliant too, spent so many hours playing with my brother.

If it had initially came out as a PS3 game with that sort of game design, I don't think the critical reception would've been as good. It probably would've sold more though, ironically, probably just because it's on PS3.

I actually liked thIs demo because this was my first gameplay exposure to the MGS series and it was really unique l. Now I'm trying to trim out my pile of shame before buying MGS1. Can't wait.

Is it just me, or is the cutscenes in this game jumpy? It's like it studders every second. That's what is sort of turning me away from this. Besides having the MGS HD collection. I don't think it's my 3DS since I have no problem running RE:Revelations which is way more taxing than this game. As well as the actual gameplay in MGS3D isn't effected.

I can't give the gameplay a thumbs up or down besides to say that if you don't have the 2nd joystick, the controls are horrible. You have to use the ABXY to move the camera. My biggest draw to it however is I'm loving the crouch movement. Makes me sad playing Snake Eater on PS3 and having to either run or crawl.

I wonder how many times im going to have to emphasize this, but i (and most other right minded gamers) don't care about the visuals! Hell, im happy to hear that it keeps up with the ps2. I mean, its a goddamn handheld game, and we already know that the Vita looks better than the 3ds. How can you expect HD quality graphics from the 3ds when the Vita is only just able to pull that off?

What really matters is the gameplay. What i want to know is whether the game works with the second joystick or not. Does it simply map the face buttons to the joystick like the Vita does with PSP games, or is it a totally different experience? THAT is going to matter the most and THAT is going to be the determining factor for whether i get a 3ds or not.

The stars shine brightest when all is dark.
