Wasn't sure if this needed its own thread, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of music in here right now... so here I go :)

In my dreams, I'm a a movie composer. In reality, I'm about as creative as a door frame. And door frames are generally not very creative at all. Fat chance that movie composer thing'll ever happen, then. :P

So I thought: what better project for a make-believe composer than a make-believe movie? I haven't decided on a title yet, but the premise is a boy who one day wakes up with the ability to see people for what they really are: papier-mâché. Starring Rick Moranis as everything.

I started orchestrating half a year ago. It's all computer-based, with me recording and mixing in Cubase, using giant libraries of sampled violins, flutes, percussion and whatnot. It's a tedious process to bring all of that to life like an orchestra would, one I still quite suck at I'm afraid. But it's fun. I hope you like it :).

But enough talk. Have atchoo.

This is the first piece I wrote. It had a sillier name at first, but now I call it "Light of the Future". It is music for a trailer.

Second piece is called "Weather the Storm". It is an introduction of things and stuff related to those things.

I hope to post more here in time :).

Excellent work!

I can definitely see the need for a movie with these scores.

What instruments do you play, and then did you make any of your own samples?

Whoa! Thank you :)

My main instrument is keys, but I play guitar, bass, drums, concert flute, accordion and a little bit of violin as well.

As for the samples, no. But except for the percussion beats, there are no loops. I use this, though a much older version. I record the pieces into MIDI on a synth and tweak it to sound natural for a symphonic orchestra. :)

It's quite 'Disney', if that makes sense - bright and full, but they're really good. I love "Weather the Storm". The instrument sounds are fantastic by the way, so whatever tweaking you did, it worked. And that's coming from someone who plays in a symphony-sized orchestra.

Thank you so much Sam :). I'm glad you like how it sounds. Even more, honored since you're a real symphonist. I'm still a newbie at this stuff though. To think that Jeremy Soule's incredible soundtracks are largely produced this way, my scores sound like a construction site in comparison. :P

Very cool job. That first one reminds me a lot of Kingdom Hearts & FFVII (the latter segment anyway), very light, cheerful, but then it gets more dramatic a minute in and you can feel the tension.

Christ, these are great! I love them. I agree with Sam that they sound "Disney"-esk, namely the first one. I like the second piece more than the first; I've always been attracted to music that coordinates piano in with harsher-sounding instruments well. It's incredibly easy to imagine stories to go with the piece, too, and I think that's key to having a good song: giving them ability to provoke visualism (I know that's not a word but, ah well). Anyway, excellent job and I hope you continue composing!
