Are you people crazy? Demanding they change the ending and, to quote a previous poster "show them where they went wrong"? That is the most arrogant load of bullshit I've ever heard. If you go to a movie and don't like part of it, do you complain to the production company and expect they'll change it? No. That's not how the industry, or almost ANY industry really, works... especially one driven by any sort of artistic creation. The artists (in this case, Bioware) put their work out there and people either appreciate it or don't, you don't just get to tell them their work isn't good enough and throw a tantrum until they do it "your way".

I was a tad disappointed with the endings as well, the difference is I'm a realistic, mature adult and I don't expect everybody who puts years worth of hard work into a product to go and change it just because I didn't like something. Hell, I wanted to be able to get the Ashley/Kaidan survivor choice as a crew member in ME2 - but where was my tantrum and petition to change the game? I didn't make one! I continued to enjoy the franchise and had I not, I simply wouldn't have bought the third. If you like something, great, if not, stop spending your money on that particular developer, it's not rocket science.

This kind of arrogance ONLY exists in the gaming community. From people complaining about sequels (essencially saying "No, you should have just spent 10 years building one 14 disc game, and charged me the same ammount as something like the most recent Madden that took a much smaller team one year to build and put on one (not even full) disc) wake up, gamers... not everything is about YOU. It's their game, they made it the way it was written and it was great.

Mass Effect 3's ending was perfect if you consider eating the best meal you've ever tasted, and then getting food poisoning from it to be perfect.

The ending was (subjectively) terrible -- filled with plot holes, lack of resolution, lack of impact regarding decisions, and it created more questions than it answered. I've never seen a bigger botch to an otherwise amazing series; we were promised endings that weren't simple a, b, or c choices by Casey Hudson, and yet that's exactly what we got.

One more thing: I don't "owe" them anything, and if you think I do, then you do not understand economics whatsoever. I am the consumer, so unless BioWare/EA is giving me product and billing me later, I will never owe them anything. They promised an experience that they failed to live up to, and fan outcry is consistent with that, no matter how many articles are written to the contrary.

Not only have you royally missed the point, you missed it so late in the debate that I have to wonder if this drivel is actually your original production or if you're just parroting the nonsense other "champions of art" have been spewing.

This has been addressed. It is not because the ending was sad. It is because the ending was unworthy of the previous hundreds of hours of narrative, unworthy of Mass Effect fan devotion, unworthy of the promises BioWare made, and unworthy of being called art.

Heck, since you find the ending so fulfilling, I must question your taste in art.

Mass Effect 3's ending was far from perfect; It was a sloppy mess.

***Spoilers*** Take the Normandy for instance. How did the entire squad, including the two who went to the transporter thing with me, all magically appear on the ship which is somehow in a Mass Effect jump when the relays were exploding? Where the hell were they going to, and how did they get on board the ship in the a few minutes?

Also, the logic behind the Reaper Godchild was ludicrous. So, he's obliterating entire species to protect them from synthetics like themselves? Huh?

And why even bother to confuse things further by introducing a new, seemingly major character, when there's only about 2 minutes of playtime left? It just confuses things. It would be as if Sauron, in the Lord of the Rings, was revealed to have some other baddy controlling him right before the ring is thrown into the lava. Why didn't they just have Harbinger fill that role since he was already established to be the leader?

Most people aren't upset that Shepard didn't get a happy ending, they're mad that the ending was obviously rushed and sloppy, and not of the same quality of the rest of the series. I'd be embarrassed if I were Nioware's writer.

This article was so un-researched that I just had to comment.. First off, I thought the ending (there was only one in three shades of color) was good, that is not what people are complaining about though. Let me try and summarize:

1) The game promised a minimum of 16 ending based on your choices. The game offered two endings: (1) you did not raise a minimum amount of support and everything dies, or (2) you get a choices of three doors and the one you pick determines the shade of an explosion in the following scene.

2) The ending sequences had major plot holes - not with the 5-year story but with the very actions that occur five minutes before the ending. Your characters go on a planet, die right next to you, the ship in space explodes, and your dead characters turn out to have been on the ship all along.

3) The argument that 'the whole game was an ending' is nice, but untrue. In every trilogy (Star Wars, Matrix, whatever) the third part is a form of closure.. but there is still a climax and conclusion at the end of the story. That is the ending, and it was not affected by the player's actions throughout the game.

4) The three shades of colors at the end of the game are a direct indication that the game is unfinished. The game its self has such an incredible level of polish, that there is no way the developers 'missed' that their three closing scenes are exactly (not 'close' but 'exactly') the same except for the shades of color. At the absolute minimum the three choices (that had nothing to do with player actions up to that point) would have resulted in three different scenes.

That is the summary of people's arguments so far, if you would like to go back and edit the article. It has nothing to do with happy fluffy story endings. That said, I don't agree with trying to Force Bioware to fix anything. It is a piece of art, even if the painter left the corner of the painting unfinished and pretended it was intentional. They screwed up and lost a lot of the favor that Bioware was floating on up until now, and I think the bulk of loyal fans are just trying to give them a chance to fix this.
