Does anyone else keep travelling back to Cornelia to use the Inn because it's only 30 gil? XD I'm so frugal.

My characters are currently level 19, because I've been doing a bit of grinding. Have yet to go get any of the crystals. XD

This is usually my norm. I go to Cornelia all the time usually. This playthough, I've actually been staying at the closest inn to my current location though. I guess I'm changing it up because lack of auto-target makes battles more difficult. I've also been using sleeping bags, tents, and cottages to save near dungeons (something I've not done since my original playthrough more than 10 years ago)

No you're not the only one, I'm doing that a fair bit too but it's in more of a cost cutting measure to try and say up enough for the armour at Melmond and the spells there rather expensive.

With the amount of aimless wondering that I've been unfortunately doing, I haven't had the need to go to cornelia to save up on Gil, or EXP for that matter, the harder encounters are rarely even a challenge anymore Sad

Haha. That's the thing... I've been grinding/farming a fair amount and the money that I save from using the Inn in Cornelia is really not worth it. XD

I got the first crystal last night. Big Grin Old school boss battles make me anxious. Like, with the newer ones you can just idly heal whenever you really need it, but with these ones you need to consistently do so because your characters can be so easily wiped out really quickly,

Just defeated Lich and got the first crystal, and i was so lucky, due to lots of battles and exploration. When i reached Lich i had no potions and my white mage had only 2 Heal1 spells and 1 Heal2 spell, my party had around 200Hp each, as soon as the battle started Lich used Ice2, doing 100-150 damage to every party member... i was like O_O im dead...., so i just started attacking like crazy while the white mage used all healing spells left and luckily he didnt do that attack again and i managed to beat him xD

My party is all level 15 right now.

Downside of an all-mage game: spending a lot more money on magic than you normally would Sad Sure, I don't have to give EVERYONE all possible spells, but I like filling up my magic repertoire as much as possible.

I've done ok with level 5 magic, because there's only one white and one black magic spell red mages can learn.

Stationed at the ice cave entrance and awaiting further orders.

I will say comparing this (and FFII from what I remember) to later games in the series the dungeons are a lot more maze like. The later games usually have a relatively linear path that forks every now and again with one of the paths leading to a dead end and maybe some loot.

I'm not sure which I prefer. I like the exploration aspect but factoring in random battles it can sometimes feel like you're covering ground too slowly.
