Oh boy...Lots of people here know that I'm a big fan of Valkyria Chronicles, and I know that it doesn't have the huge fanbase that it should. I've always wanted to have a conversation about this series, but never found many people who had played the game. Hopefully, by creating this thread, I could encourage more gamers to talk about the game, and maybe get gamers who never played Valkyria Chronicles to possibly try it out. People here can talk about the games, the story, the gameplay...Even the anime and manga that spawned from the game...

To start off a discussion...what got you into Valkyria Chronicles?

For me, it all began when I read a review of VC in Playstation: The Official Magazine. I remember just looking at the pictures and being so drawn into the art. It was just totally different from what I was used to and I liked it. As I continued reading the review, the gameplay also enticed me, being a mix of third-person shooter and a strategy game. After reading that review, and watching an entire walkthough of the game on YouTube, I decided to get the game. And I just loved it. Gameplay was just so enjoyable and the story was just so enveloping...xD

I've could just ramble on and on about this game...XD

I think it was one of the initial trailers that caught my eye. Sadly I didn't get to play the game for a long time, and even now I have yet to finish it. Darn time constraints. I was so glad when they made an anime of it, which I loved, I thought the story was amazing.

It's at the top of a list of games I intend to finish this summer. Smile

Ouch, don't ask me why I havn't made a thread on this. VC is easily my second favorite game of all time. I just love it!

I discovered VC when I was looking for RPGs for the PS3 right after I bought it. A site had a few people claiming VC had an amazing story and was a hidden gem. I found it at Gamestop which sold me a new sealed copy for the price of used. When I got it home, and fired it up, I admit I was sort of turned off by it's book style menus. However, when I got into the game and the story I was quickly hooked.

Valkyria Chonicles 1
The characters were enjoyable and fun to watch interact. The story was a very interested take on a pseudo WW2 thing with a mystical twist that didn't seem cheesy at all. The armor/weapons were plenty to build and unlock. The squad building was fun. Music was pretty good and definitely set the emotion.

One of the more funny things that I loved about this game was the personal traits each character had. One character can lose evasion when left alone, others can get a chance of refilling their ammo automatically. At first I took it as crippling issues. "Why do I want that character? They'll be useless every desert fight with that allergy." Later I started seeing it as something that makes each character seem unique while playing the game. Suddenly out of nowhere Rosie will yell out something for her Big Sister trait, and I suddenly feel like she's trying to be brave in front of her sisters in arms. Or Elysse will whine about tanks when she gets near them. It's a hidden aspect that makes it a great game.

Valkyria Chronicles 2
Later when it came out for PSP, I bought a PSP and VC2. I quickly realized the story here was a bit subpar. While I kind of liked learning about each individual character, it got repetitive quick and the whole class date sim thing was not my favorite. However none of that stopped this game from being just as amazing as the first. Due to the limits of the console, the battle areas were smaller, but there were many attached. It made it feel less open field battle and more small area tactical. What made this one so amazing though was the vast number of levels and the inclusion of job selection. Allowing you to build and select jobs for everyone was awesome.

Funny thing was that I ended up getting my dad into Valkyria Chronicles. He kept stealing my PSP and playing VC2 all the time. So I eventually got him his own PSP and a copy of VC2 that he played to death. We ended up playing coop together a bunch, which was very well done and was a blast!

Valkyria Chonicles 3
While I don't ever see this hitting the US, I did enjoy the demo. They definitely took some good aspects of 2 and fixed the annoying parts as well. I was hoping for a PSN release for Vita users, but every news I've read kills this idea. The story looked pretty good too *sigh*

Future of Valkyria Chronicles and Valkyria Duel
While I’d love to see Sega make another Valkyria Chronicles that would make it to the west, especially on the PS3 again, it’s been looking grim. The sales havn't been too great and a new title Shining Blade now uses VC's custom engine. PSP really seemed like it’s last hope. However recently Sega trademarked the name “Valkyria Duel.” While it’s just a trademark and could possible never happen, the thought of another Valkyria title is interesting. My only fear is if it’s a game not utilizing the VC engine, or some iOS game.

Many groups like Gallian Liberation Front continue to push petitions that get ignored, but I hope they keep up the good fight. I ended up buying 2 copies of VC2, may end up buying a digital copy for my Vita. I also bought all the DLC available (except 2 which I’ll get soon). I think the message we need to send is that people still love and support this series. Even if it goes to deaf ears, maybe it won’t?

Nutshell Conclusion
Wow, I ended up writing a book so I went ahead and outlined it. I love VC, will always love VC, and hope we see more titles in the future. A major console title (or vita) with VC1 scale battles and story with all the job based stuff of VC2 would be epic.

Hopefully, our cries don't fall on deaf ears...I would love to see VC continue. I mean, they're great games. There isn't one that is terrible. Sure, VC2 might have been a downgrade in terms of story (and some parts of the gameplay IMO), but it was still great. Hopefully, if VC3 is brought to the West, we can see how they learned from the mistakes they made in VC2.

By the way Zeruel, have you seen the VC anime?

Well I guess I should give my Kent Brockman Opinion in here

I love the series, RPG and Strategy with great art design. The way I got into the game is my friend showed me the game on his PS3, and as he was playing it, I was completely blown away by the art and how the game played, and when I looked at the game case; I kept saying “This was made by Sega?” to him. The music was awesome too, when I first heard it I told my friend “It reminds me of FF12” and he told me that the music was done by Hitoshi Sakimoto, and I would reply “This was made by Sega?” again. It’s the game I play the most on my PS3 and I love it to death.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 I love just as much as the VC1 if not more, as I have over 250 hours clocked into the game. The job system is the weakest point as it would be hard to change, but I love fighting so much that I don’t care. I didn’t have any problems with the story, but since I love Yugioh GX that doesn’t come as a surprise.

I am still very hopeful for Valkyria Chronicles 3 in the west, I know it may seem hopeless, but it’s hopeless if you give up. I want it so bad; I want it more than Mega Man Legends 3, which says something as I have been waiting for MML3 longer. Plus I want the DLC that lets you fight 4 Valkyria at the same time.

As far as the other VC media, I hate the anime with a fierce and unbridled passion, and I am going to leave it at that. The manga for VC1, was pretty good from what I’ve read, liked how it was drawn, and it gave the side characters moments to shine. The VC3 ova was good too, I wish it was longer but whatever.

I enjoy the series and hope to see more come to the west, but I do have a little anxiety with this “Valkyria Duel” as to be honest, I think it’s going to be just browser game.

Everyone please support the Gallian Liberation Front, if not to get to VC3 in the west, but to show that JRPGs still have a strong following in the west. You can find details in my signature

I wonder why...XD

Does anyone have a favorite character? Maybe storywise and gameplay-wise?

For story, I'm a sucker for Isara...Her entire plight is just sad, and just when it starts to get good, it just ends...Not to mention, great tank driver...XD

Gameplay-wise:
Scout: Alicia Melciott
Shocktrooper: Vyse
Sniper: Marina
Lancer: Largo
Engineer: Nadine

I'll exclude VC2...it's just too complicated of a job system...XD

Always gotta have a soft spot for Isara. She pretty much was a centerblock of most of the story. Aside from that, I loved Elysse. Her voice acting just brightens my day.

Gameplay wise, Alicia is a given. Being as she was unstoppable with commands in VC1. Practically soloing most missions if you wanted to. Super distance, check. Regain health potential, check. Super evasion and defense potential, check. Also, of course, always having Largo and Rosie for points. I used Rosie but I hated Largo. Me and my dad always joked when any lancers missed, "Oh no! You pulled a Largo!"

Gameplay-wise:
Scout: Alicia and Cherry - I just loved Cherry's goofy voice acting.
Shocktrooper: Vyse and Edy - Vyse was nuts and has great potentials, Edy was just.. well Edy!
Sniper: Marina - Little emo, but could kick some butt.
Lancer: Elysse - My favorite character in VC, just loved her voice acting. "Yaaay!"
Engineer: Nadine - One of the few solid engineers.

Aww, I loved the VC2 job system!!
VC2, My usual Dreamteam was:
Commando: Avan and Lynn - Both capable of double turns, and Commandos are over-powered.
Mauler: Mischlitt - Loved Mischlitt, and maulers owned big tanks!
FencerE: Alexis - I was big on Fencers til I found Commandos, I keep Mischlitt for certain enemies.
Medic: Cosette - Cosette has some insane healing potentials, so she's my best healer.
HvyGunner: Zeri - Extra CP, Zeri sits guard at my base, and HvyGunners melt face when guarding.
LancerE: Jugin - Able to get double shot, and LancerElites eat heavy tanks from distance.
ATSniper: Nichol - Nichol is my extremely long range vehicle killer.

I have only played the second game, but from what I played I did like it lot, it was a very fun rpg to play in an military setting. The diffident jobs were cool, but it was very hard to change. I like Avan and Cosette, I thought the were really cute together. I still have to play the one for the PS3, so that on my list of things to play.

Run toward the horizon, and don't look back

In terms of characters I really like,

outside of the main characters I love Lancers
VC1 Lancers, I am also a big fan of Elysse too, I like how she is so awesome in how she acts, Lazy afternoon mode all the time. Audrey for her for her fervor, I like how when you move with her, I like how her hair waves side to side. Walter for the the sunglasses, (Thanks for the shades!!!)

its really really hard to pick characters to like, as they are all very colorful and different, I love them all.

VC2 I like Mischlitt, Avan, Cosette, Zeri, Noel for being my favorite lancer.

@ Zeruel I do like the different job classes, I am saying its hard to change jobs, unlike me not everyone likes to grind.

I like Vyse line "Sweet! Our hero is in trouble now!"

Does anyone have any favorite missions?

I am going to be strange and said

Hm...Battles...That's a hard one...

I'm gonna have to go with VC1 classics. Totally enjoyed
One for its full-on battle and the other because the boss battle was just so enjoyable and challenging, making it all the more satisfying when you beat that boss...XD
