Colin Wrote:I think there is definitely a high possibility they will get M ratings. Even in the earlier trailers, you can see Noctis stabbing someone violently and breaking necks - not the kind of stuff you would see in Teen rated titles.

Just looking at Ar Tonelica Qoga as an example, that game got an M rating based on character dialogue alone and no, nobody swears in that game, it's just a...different sort of dialogue XD

And while there isn't as much blood as NG, there is more than enough to warrant an M rating. Like I mentioned earlier, people burning alive, getting shot execution style, first person deaths, etc. Definitely enough for an M rating, and we haven't even seen all of the games.

Anyway, not that the ratings matter unless you're under 17, even then I'm sure teens can get their hands on the games, it hasn't stopped them from obtaining M rated titles before.

On the other hand, I'm hoping for a more mature storyline with both these games Smile

Actually, Colin, you may recall, that in order to appease the younger FF fans, North America will cut down on the blood and other scenes. It's happened time and again. There isn't enough blood to warrant an M rating, in my opinion.

Colin Wrote:Wait, what? What Tactics game did you play? I don't remember the original or War of the Lions ever having any card based gameplay xD

Besides, the trailer showed gameplay of multiple playable characters including one with a long sword.

I don't know about the other Tactics games but the only one I've played is Tactics Advaced in which cards were used to nullify or initiate laws.

@HighwindDeath

Yeah I love how Versus is like fantasy based in todays world, with that kind of design.

Agito is a fantasy based in the WW1/2 days of todays world...love that feel.

And of course XIII-2 will be a new world itself not based on this world which is great.

@Ninja Gaiden Fans

I tried to get into it, I like the DS version but the console ones just didn't click with me.

versus - at the beginning I thought it was like KH style only cooler (love how you can drive the machines around and all), based on the trailer I assume you get to control more than just Noctis right? cause that guy with the gun is awesome, I think this is probably the most realistic (resemble real world) game SE has ever made

type zero - wooow is that bloody ! but with that narration (gotta admit I don't understand Japanese) it looks even more WW2 ish, still the fighting style looks awesome plus its on the PSP so SE's got my money there haha

A lot of people seem to think that the amount of blood involved is the only criteria needed to get a Mature rating...

From the looks of the trailer Type-0 seems to be focusing a lot on the violence that's involved in war. I've never seen any previous FF games portray violence to that degree before (nor have I seen anyone or thing gun down a frickin Bahamut), gunning down students execution style, first-person deaths, and the other things that Colin also mentioned are all enough to get an M rating in my opinion. For example, games like the Metal Gear Saga didn't have much blood, they certainly didn't have as much blood spewing out like in the Type-0 trailer. But they were all rated M because of the violence and mature subjects involved. At the very least I think Type-0 will get a Teen rating...but in all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if it was given a Mature one.

And I certainly hope they don't tone it down.

We know that. There isn't a doubt in my mind, that North America will tone it down whether you like it or not. I don't like the way blood spews out in this game though.

Then my question is this...has SE ever toned down their own games for Western release? I don't think they have, at least there aren't any that are coming to mind at the moment. If they haven't I don't see why they would start now, plus Director Hajime Tabata also says he doesn't wish to cut out any content.

If he's decided on polishing up the real-time cutscenes (which involve all these violence) and opted for 2 UMDs so that he doesn't lose any content, why would he want to or let someone else cut out their hard work?

I don't believe they ever have, but the NES release of FF1 did get censored back in the day. nothing too much, just cutting anything out that could be considered religious propaganda (crosses, and churches became candles and clinics)

::EDIT:: oh, I forgot about FF6, there was an esper that got censored. I can't remember who though, I think it was sylph or something *goes to find it*

::EDIT2:: Ok, it was Siren that got edited. Also, like in FF1 on the NES, anything that was considered religious propaganda of some sort got edited (Holy got renamed Pearl in the US release.) So basically, Squaresoft did had a lot of content editing for localization back in the day (but that may have just been Nintendo's doing)
