Should I get Abyss for PS2 if I already own the 3DS version?

On the 3DS, the sound on the animated movie scenes are, well, crap. I can't hardly hear even with the volume all the way up. That's about the only thing wrong with that version.

But, I've been thinking about getting the PS2 version so I could play on my TV, and I guess just to have the original version Smile The problem is, it's about $30 new no matter where I look. Is it worth it? Please reply someone!

The loading times are really, really bad on the PS2 version, plus there's a number of bugs that were fixed in the 3DS version.

I personally wouldn't suggest picking it up since you already have the 3DS version.

Hmmm if you have issues with movie scenes and the sound quality of a handheld, I suggest getting the Ps2 version. Like Shawn said, they DID indeed fix a lot of bugs and glitches for the 3DS version, but there are some glitches that are fun to use and can help out the gameplay (if you feel like being cheap Big Grin). And if I'm not mistaken, there's a skill button where you can use up to 5 skills and 4 on the touch screen right? If you find it annoying to keep switching to the touch screen, that's another incentive for getting the Ps2 version as it uses the right analog stick instead. It's your call really. I mean you have the full game and it's portable so you can lug it around everywhere. But on the other hand, you can't glitch, the sound quality is toned down a bit I think and like you said in full animated cutscenes, and the graphics are a bit toned down as it is a handheld (not saying graphics are a real issue, but it's a bit foreign for me when I see the graphics on the 3DS). Your call man. hope this helped

I was curious to find out if the PS2 version was good or not. Personally, I haven't had too much issues with the 3DS version. Don't recall loading issues and looks great. Only problems I've seen is some slowdown on the world map and the text bubbles in 3D are terrible. Aside from those issues the only thing keeping me from loving ToA3D is Luke.... Ugh so annoying.

I'll agree the sound ain't great, but that's mainly the fault of the crummy speakers on 3DS. I think you can remedy that by plugging in a headset (or speakers I guess).

Having it on a larger screen would be nice though. I guess there's no harm in giving it a shot. 30 bucks is actually really nice for New. If you end up not liking it, shelve it as a collect item ^_^

My friend, lag in the world map is present in all game versions sadly. And yeah I agree. Saw the text bubbles in gameplay vids and they're bleh. As for Luke, I love Luke lol.

Eh and speakers/headsets don't necessarily remedy bad quality. Obviously they can't use the same audio quality of a video game console so it might sound slightly better but still the same.

As for larger screen, it can be an advantage at times, but if the screen is too big... it can become a problem. Remember, it IS a ps2 game still. But I do agree. Get the game FFgirl!

Bummer to hear about field lag in PS2 also. Oh well, makes me not feel bad about it on the 3DS as much (although they should have remedied before porting).

As for headset, the issue Finalfantasygirl was having was it being too quiet, not sounding bad. So this actually remedies it very well.

As for the sound quality, wearing a headset does indeed improve the quality a great deal. I admit, when I read your response I went and tested with and without a headset and the difference is staggering. The 3DS speakers cannot provide certain tones that the game originally created for larger speakers. Thus tones such as bass get lost. Wearing a headset allows you to obtain all those tones plus provides a deeper richer sound. I also recorded and played it side by side with a HD PS2 playthrough clip on Youtube and the quality is identical. I don't claim to be a classical music critic with golden ears, but I just don't see any degradation from PS2 to 3DS with headsets on.

Don't mean to pick apart your reply Abe, I was just actually very curious myself if headsets improved the sound issue. I'm thinking of restarting my game and play all the way through with headset next time ^_^

haha it's all good man. And haha sorry bout all this. When I hear bad sound I think of you can't hear it and the quality is bad. I thought the 2nd part cause I listened to the sound on a vid on Youtube (one of those HD ones that were recorded) and the Sound obviously shows that it's a handheld. Sorry bout that man. And ahhh haha sorry bout the headset thing. I was tired when posting this and wasn't thinking properly. I was thinking standard earphones cause that's what I use. Now I'm a bit more awake and I see you mean the big earmuff-like headsets haha. I see what you mean man. And you should!

No need for apologies Tongue

When I tested it I used earphones. I used some off an ipod nano. I hate the big earmuff ones lol. I just used headset as a generalizaton hehe.
