Fairly serious issue: Thread title lengths

I was trying to post a response to this thread: http://www.gamingunion.net/forums/thread-12167.html when I was greeted with this error message:

After pondering this for some time, I have worked out the problem (I think). This thread has a long title (85 chars), which must in fact be the limit of length for a thread title. When you post a reply, normally on forums your own post has a title as well, with the prefix "RE: " (which would provide the extra 4 chars to take it up to 89). Normally this wouldn't be a massive issue as you could change the post title manually, but with the latest GU forum skin there are no titles. This makes it impossible to post a reply to the thread. I will change the title of this thread in due course (once I have had a response to this thread), reducing it by 4 chars for the moment and thus allowing posts.

I don't know how easy a fix this is, or whether whatever you set the limit as this problem will always occur (if the thread title is within 4 chars of the limit). Unless you can change the default title (prefix) setting for user posts. Wink

Another annoying example of this issue has cropped up: http://www.gamingunion.net/forums/thread-13039.html

This time it is an article, so I'm disinclined to meddle with the title given some of the issues we have had previously with comments and whatnot not working/going missing on the main site. Currently no reply can be made in the thread nor on the main site.

After looking into this, it's something I could theoretically "fix" by removing the Re: prepending code, but it'd cause issues if I did that.

MyBB appears to be aware of this, so once they push out an upgrade to fix this it'll be fixed. Until then, titles will either need to be edited on the forum side or the articles themselves will need to limit their title length.

Marking it "not fix" because of this.
