So...you're basically asking why didn't Tifa and Cloud go out during the course of VII?

Well, if you take all the right steps in the game, you can actually have Cloud take Tifa out on the Gold Saucer date rather than Aeris. Also, from a canon standpoint, since Cloud has been heavily influenced by Zack's personality and not acting like himself, which could explain why Aeris was attracted to him and how he and Tifa didn't much time to bond until Cloud regains his true personality.

I could just say it is because Cloud is a little bit too much of a whiny b****, but that would be too much of a cop-out. Cloud's time is pretty damned occupied whichever way you look at any game in the FF VII series. I mean, he doesn't have much time for anything in CC, and in VII and AC he's a bit busy saving the world. I suppose a love interest might be of interest to the plot, but it isn't what the game is about and so I think it is right that nothing is really made of it.

well of course they love each other but Cloud was too confused in VII to do anything and in AC he was grieving he felt guilty that Aeris died ect ect. It wasn't until the end when he was actually happy and content. But I also agree with what Chloe said.

I would put it plain and simple: It's not pertinent to the story, or character development in any way. That is why in any game where there is a love story involved, characters no not go out.

There is actually one game I've ever played where characters ever actually went out, and that was Thousand Arms for PS1 (which oddly enough help with Blacksmithing in that game LOL)

Thing is, Cloud still goes on a "date" with either Aeris or Tifa before going into the Temple of the Ancients. I think that counts as going out, but barely.
