So I was curious, since KH is on so many multiple consuls how much of the story are people missing out on if they don't play well all or almost all of them. I've only played KH 1 and 2 I've got chain of memories on the ps2 but I set it down since the cards frustrated me. Why do you think its being released on all these different console? Wouldn't it make more sense to release them on the major systems?

It's sort of a dilema that plagues any series. However, I don't think it's hurting KH much since you only really have BirthBySleep, 356, and DreamDropDistance not on the PS2. Also, from what I understood, all of the main plot points are in 1, ChainOfMemories, and 2. So you're not missing much. BirthBySleep didn't really do much but fill in gaps. 356 seemed void of story. We'll have to see with DreamDropDistance. If all else fails, YouTube has story videos Tongue

Generally, handheld titles are cheap to produce and are a great avenue for testing new gameplay ideas. So it's a no brainer for producers. Producing strictly on main consoles is more expensive, and risks are higher to produce something that will sell millions. It can make or break a company.

I was lucky enough to play all titles until now, unfortunately i will have to pass on Dream Drop Distance, i think they released KH on multiple platforms in order to gain more fans, that why they released these"side-stories" ( although i think Birth by Sleep is really important to the main plot ).

Also i think Dream Drop Distance was supossed to be part of KH3, but since Nomura cant start working on KH3 (he has to finish Versus first )he decided to release another "side-story" thats is actually part of the main story, and i think they will release at least 2 more games before KH3, because i seriously doubt we will KH3 in the next 4-5 years.

I wouldn't really call platforms like the PSP, DS, and 3DS a console per say . It has been a long time since I have seen kingdom hearts ona console, but yea Kingdom Hearts has been on a lot platforms in the last 6 years.

I say yes because people who are really into a series will want to play all of the games. Making it so your fans have to buy several different consoles within the same console generation just to have access to the games feels like a dick move to me.

I understand it from a business perspective, but I still don't like it.

Well, this is nothing new though. Think of how many different platforms Final Fantasy has been on since it's inception, and Sonic since the fall of the Dreamcast. Heck, even Castlevania has been doing it since pretty much forever!. The way I see it, it's nothing to complain about. So KH is spread across 5 platforms (not counting the mobile games) that's nothing new, and it is small compared to some of the older franchises out there.

Here lies the problem with your argument: most of those franchises games can be stand-alone, whereas Kingdom Hearts seems to be interconnected with the same continuity, but split between two or more platforms. People who didn't both picking up Chain of Memories were found themselves confused in Kingdom Hearts II when references to Organization XIII.

Yes, but it was a small confusion, and besides, many good series cause confusion anyways.

That's my main issue.

It's not a big problem for me, I own all the games, but I feel for the younger crowd who might not be able to afford several different consoles.

KH is most definitely on way too many consoles. I think the biggest offense is that every game so far has been a part of the main story's canon, so to get the full experience you must play all the games. I think it would have been fine if KH was on different consoles of the same company (ie. PS2,PS3, and PSP) since many of owners of one of those consoles will be owners of other consoles from the same company, but they've crossed between Sony, Nintendo, and Mobile Phones...

Not cool Square... Not cool...
