For all you raving Bach and Beethoven ravers out there, kicking it old school, this is the thread for you.

....

I'll never do that again... Sorry... Tongue

Anyway, let's get a discussion rolling on everything classical.

I'll start off. Currently I have been listening to an Estonian Composer caller Arvo Pärt. Born 1935 and is actually still alive! He composed a theme [Fratres] in 1977 and has composed many variations of this theme. To list them for you...

Quote:Strings and percussion
Violin, strings and percussion
String quartet
Cello and piano
Four, eight, twelve... cellos
Wind octet and percussion
String quintet
Wind quintet
Violin and piano
Viola and Piano

The arrangement I have been listening to is the Violin and Piano performed by two performers considered God-Tier in my books; Keith Jarrett on Piano and Gidon Kremer on Violin.

Now I throw the gauntlet over to you guys and gals Smile

I'm not much of a classical music listener any more but Pachelbel's Canon for me is a big favourite of mine. It was great listening to it driving in the Gran Turismo 4 game. It's just makes me feel so at peace that I forget what's happening around me.

I'm by no means a classical buff but I listen to a bit every now and again. A piece I listen to regularly and would probably consider one of my all time favourite pieces of music (from any genre) is Bach's Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor BWV 582.

And I have to mention this awesome guitar rendition by Robert Fripp and his string quintet.

I like to get my Farandole on too.

(I wanted to post Walter Murphy's A Fifth Of Beethoven and David Shire's Night on Disco Mountain but I managed to repress that urge)

I played some Satie for my piano grade 6, love the crazy bastard.

We just performed the first movement of Beethoven's 5th Symphony with the orchestra I perform with. My God, that piece is so great, and a cellist's dream (especially the ending, it is really fun!).

(That recording is a little fast for my liking.)

Another good one.

Keep 'em coming everyone. In order to broaden my classical horizon I'm going to listen through everything posted in this thread.

Just so hauntingly beautiful, and I just love playing it...Gamer might recognize it as the piano puzzle from Resident Evil...XD

I think this would be considered as "classical" music.... a basic and repetitive pattern but hearing it once in a while... its nice. And its a sweet peaceful melody. Tongue

And I'm loving this thread, its fun to listen to all of these songs. ^.^

You've gotta love it. I can play the first 2 minutes or so, never bothered to sit down an learn the rest! Sad I should. The synthesised strings in that recording completely and utterly ruin it though, IMO (screw the 44 million views). Undecided http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nT7_IZPHHb0 - much better, though still not the best. It needs to be played on a proper concert grand really.
