Yeah it would be nice if their were some blockbuster games in the summer. The only games that I'm getting that are releasing this summer are The Amazing Spiderman, Sleeping Dogs, and Overstrike(don't know when it's releasing but I know it's this summer).

It's a good list of games that are releasing this summer but it seems a little small when I compare it to the games that I'm getting in the fall. Like blockbuster movies they are released in the summer, but blockbuster video games release in the fall.

Should this formula change, I think so would make the summer less boring, but that's really up to the publishers.

Every summer the conversation comes around... it makes no sense to me or anyone else! Surely the perfect time to release a game would be summertime, when everyone is off school or college? Granted, maybe they should be outside instead of cooped up indoors, but that is a different argument. And anyway, I live in England where summer really doesn't bring really attractive weather, most of the time. Does anyone have an explanation? I genuinely want to know why devs and publishers do this.

I don't like it either, but I think the biggest reason why fall is the video game equivalent of the summer movie blockbuster season is mostly one reason: the Christmas/holiday season is right around the corner, and they know they have a better chance boosting sales numbers.

I kinda half agree with TheNinjaMax... I do think that they have a better chance of boosting sales numbers around the holiday period, but only within themselves. Companies have to bet on their game being the one that everyone wants to buy; eg. You have to beat everyone else that is releasing within a few weeks of each other.

However, as an industry, more spread out titles would benefit as a whole, because people would more likely have the cash to buy each title at Day One price, rather than having to wait to save up.

Indeed, I end up having to ignore most games that release around then simply because it isn't affordable.

Exactly. If one developer brought out an AAA title at the start of July, they would have everyone buying it - no competition and at a time when people are really looking for games...
