I used to watch alot of anime when I was a kid - Cowboy Bebop, Dragon Ball/Z/GT, Pokemon, Bleach and that..so what is some of the latest and greatest Anime?

Well this thread is a duplicate but since I'm not a mod I can't move it. Honestly I would say Fairytail, One Piece(over 400 episodes if you have the time), Naruto, and many more I can't think of at the time since I'm typing on my Phone.

I wouldn't say Naruto is a good anime. It's terrible really, too much filler and episodes with crappy animation. Only a select few, mostly episodes covering turning points in the manga, are decently animated.

Secondly, this thread's objective seems different enough from Recommend an Anime seeing as Red's asking what's the latest and greatest, and not just any old favourite anime.

Sadly, I will not be able to help, since the most recent anime I've seen were the likes of Ga-rei Zero, FMA: Brotherhood, Chrome Shelled Regios, etc. The latter of which was just ok, the first two were great imo. Regardless, those animes are at least a year or two old.

Maybe check out the Black Rock Shooter series? I've only seen the 2010 OVA, but the TV series started running this year, and I've heard good things about it from my friends.

My Anime viewing the last year or 2 has been pretty limited. Katanagatari was amazing visually and story wise. During that time I also watched Angel Beats. Was pretty action packed, unique, and had some very touching moments. Since then I watched Yumekui Merry, which was alright. However it had so much potential to it's story that they just never touched on. My most recent watching has been Accel World. It's an interesting not so distant future take on internet and technology. It's got a cute story behind it, and it's just recently been picking up.

Well I don't know if it's really the greatest I've ever seen, but Beelzebub and Sket Dance are pretty good. Sket Dance just recently did a cross-over with Gintama, which was pretty funny in my opinion. I just recently got Crunchyroll on my PS3, so basically im watching anime for the rest of my summer vacation. Crunchyroll actually have some pretty good anime on it, it lags sooooo much. Also watched the current 6 episodes Sword Arts Online, which is kinda a rip-off of the dotHack series but its good...for a rip-off. Back on topic, in my opinion, Steins;Gate is a great new anime to watched. I mean, the story is hard to follow for a regular person, but it's quite amazing.

I've been rewatching Naruto and Haruhi. While I do agree with Colin that there is too much filler in Naruto, I think the show is perfectly fine if you pretend it ends at episode 135.

Haruhi is a great fairly new anime. It's based off of a Japanese light novel so it's got a better, more connected story than a lot of the manga based animes.

Also if you like mech animes at all, Eureka Seven is a great choice.
