Personally I would say FF7 since it's my favourite PS1 classic to play, don't take my word for it...it's your choice.

Buy both. They are both fantastic. I've only beaten VII myself but I am (kinda) playing through VI and can say no matter which one you buy, both will entertain you. If playing old graphics on a big TV hurts you, play them on your PSP (if you have one) because they feel right for the portable.

FFVI is the better game in my opinion, but neither are really my favourites. I see you've gone for VI. Smile

I believe the PSN version is a lot more similar to the original SNES version of the game, bar a few cutscenes. It keeps the older names of stuff (eg gil is GP) and I think it still has a lot of the bugs in the original.

If you are able to get both, get both. VI and VII are both among the top 5 games in the series to most fans. Without knowing you its hard to say which one you'd like more.

VI is really the result of 5 Final Fantasy games on the NES and SNES. It takes everything they did and tried over 5 games and does them all to perfection. It has probably the best villian in the series. It was the first game to not have a traditional middle ages setting, going for a steampunk one instead. It had the great Esper system for magic and customization

VII is more of a new beginning for the series, the first 3D Final Fantasy, the first game in the series to feature extensive cut scenes, first to have pre-rendered back grounds etc... It took the story telling to another level (in depth and how convulated it was). It went even more modern with its setting. It had the great materia system for magic and customization.

Considering there's enough versions out there that don't have the issue and the GBA version has a much better translated script (there's patches to fix the audio issue), it's subpar to the SNES/GBA releases.

My main issue with the GBA ports is the music. Being a bit of an audiophile I'm pretty picky about music and I can't stand the GBA's sound chip (or maybe it's not the chip itself but the amount of compression. Either way.)

I played the PSN version of FFV and put up with Faris' annoying pirate mannerisms purely because I hated the music in the GBA version. Although in the future I might actually play the GBA version just for the better script.

It may seem trivial to some people but it really grates on me.

Obviously SNES is king but I don't have a SNES or a Wii to play the originals.

Sorry, got a bit off topic there.

That's why I suggested that patch, since it fixes the only real issue (outside of some very minor lag when specific moves are used) the port had.

2 second load times suddenly make a game bad? >_>

In any case, I've played a bit of VI on the PSX and I don't have any complaints. I would recommend getting both these games if you can, you won't regret it.

Either really. I would say VII just because I do love it, and you can play Crisis Core and watch Advent Children to supplement it too. But both are good, I enjoy VI.
