Hey everybody and welcome to the third season of Gaming Union's community event New Game Plus! This is a feature that sees Unionites all take on the same game and play through to a pre-determined checkpoint each week, a bit like a bookclub but for video games. On the other hand, it's just like playing a game normally, but plus the GU community! The idea of the feature is to encourage in depth discussion about games in general but pushes people to focus on small sections of one title at a time. This can create a space where we can be more analytical or critical about game design or mechanics.

So far, the Gaming Union community has played through two titles as a group; Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy I. It's been a lot of fun, and there's been plenty of conversation topics. From the fact that Merryl is annoying to suggested party set ups, no conversation topic is barred! The only requirement is that you play through each section with everyone else on the set week, otherwise you'll get left behind and then join in the conversation!

For our third season of New Game Plus, the Gaming Union community has chosen for the next game to be the action adventure Tomb Raider: Legend! It's the 7th core title in the franchise, which originally debuted back in 1996, but the first title in the series to be handled by the current developers, Crystal Dynamics. We're going to be starting our first week of adventure on the 7th of June, when I'll post up an article/thread letting you know the rules and also the first checkpoint, so please everyone who is interested in taking part get your hands on a copy as soon as you can!

The best thing about Tomb Raider: Legend showing up in NGP this season, is that it wasn't so long ago that a Tomb Raider collection was released, making it really easy to purchase and own! The versions of the game which are valid for this group playthrough will be as follows: PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Windows (via Steam), PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita (via PSN), Nintendo GameCube & PlayStation 3 (via The Tomb Raider Trilogy). There are probably even some versions that I've missed out! If you're unsure which version is best for you, drop a comment in this thread and ask! I'm personally playing the Trilogy Collection released in HD for PlayStation 3! However, please note that the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS versions will not work with this playthrough. Although they follow the same story, the game is wildly different from the others.

So what are you waiting for? There're tombs to be raided! Get your hands on a copy of the game and look forward to next Thursday! Feel free to post your comments here on your feelings about the game or New Game Plus! Also let me know if you have any questions on things I haven't yet covered and I'll do my best to answer everything here.

my PS2 copy is ready and rarin' to go ^_^
on an interesting side note, I actually credit Tomb Raider for actually getting me into the Final Fantasy series, so it seems like quite an interesting twist of fate that we play my favorite Tomb Raider after my best FF ^_^

I recommend people to not play the psp version. It is down right a horrible mess and experience.

Funny you should mention that. I just remembered that I bought it for PSP ages ago. I think I gave up playing on the second level. I can't remember if it was laggy or it had bad controls or something but it was just bad. I traded it in soon after.

Looking forward to the return of NGP, though my week 1 will be interrupted by the second Guild Wars 2 beta weekend Wink
