Quote:E3, just like any kind of entertainment industry expo, is a fairly simple beast to understand. Developers and publishers show up to razzle dazzle the audience, talk about the great things to come, and excite people with promises that may or may not be kept. In many ways it's like an election campaign, where people eventually vote on the winner with their wallets somewhere between eight and twelve months later. So it makes sense that as a major company it would be your sole focus to showcase a few first party/exclusive games as possible, or highlight the exact kind of gaming experience that everyone has been trying to avoid as of late, right? No it doesn't. Welcome to E3 2012.

Even Sony's E3 press-con was hampered by the company's pitch to sell us "alternative play" with that god-awful long presentation of the Wonderbook device. But, I agree, all in all, while most of what the Big Three had to offer was lackluster overall, it's saddening to see both Microsoft and Nintendo (the former being the candidate that had more to prove than anybody else this E3) stumble and trudge through this year's event with no spark in their engine.

Granted, the Wii U is a new console and more support in the pipeline can be expected even if it isn't initially delivered at launch. On the other hand, if rumors about Nintendo wanting to launch the Wii U as early as the holiday season should be weighed against the games they currently have to offer, then Nintendo could potentially find themselves in a bit of a pickle.

Ports of more or almost year old games, two mini game titles and a rehash of New Super Mario Bros. doesn't help things, even if there were some titles such as ZombiU and Pikmin 3 which were great showcase games.

And don't even get me started on that farce of a Nintendo 3DS event (lol "never announced games to be revealed").

@stealth If E3 just had Nintendo, EA and Microsoft I'm sure Nintendo would have won. They didn't though Ubisoft definitely Won E3 out of all 5 conferences. If were just talking about the Big 3 then I would say Sony because they had a good start and a good finish, while Nintendo had 3 different conferences at 3 different hours which didn't leave that many people impressed.

The WiiU has a couple good games for it's launch that I'm interested in but I wouldn't say that this is the best line up in history I have seen better. I'm debating about it so that make it debatable. Don't know if the console will sell it could or it couldn't that's all dependent on the consumers.

really now? your source for this? because this is the first I've heard from anyone that Nintendo has won E3 this year. I'm a Nintendo fanboy, and I don't even say it.

aside from Rayman Legends, nothing shown as a launch title for WiiU impressed me even half as much as what the Wii had, not to mention the fact that the Xbox360 had a pretty good launch lineup

You're wrong, everything is debatable

That's highly plausible, that is if Nintendo advertises it well enough (if Sega has taught us anything, proper advertising makes all the difference)

Best launch? Sure, Nintendo always has great launch. Where is that momentum on any of their consoles even six months after launch? Plus no mention of Smash Bros, no showing of Zelda, no Mario title/demo, no Metroid, Yoshi, or any of the other dozens of Nintendo IP's in full force. If you weren't disappointed by Nintendo this E3, frankly you probably deserve to own a Wii-U.

I think Microsoft was definitely the worst. They showed me nothing that has me at all excited or wanting to touch my Xbox360 (which is collecting dust). Halo 4? Maybe when it's $30. Just not a huge FPSer. Gears? Probably turn more vulgar so I'll not be touching that. They showed 3 new IP's. 2 were just teaser videos and 1 was their take on God of War which didn't look to pleasing.

Nintendo set up their console for a great start, IF and only IF you have no other console but a Wii. Out of their 25 titles they listed we have only 3 New IPs and 7 exclusives (all 1st party). There's 5 old ports and 18 cross platform games. Which again is great for Nintendo users (no sarcasm), but for those with other consoles there's nothing new to offer.

Just like Sony, Nintendo managed to alienate their handheld consumers. While they did 'better' by holding a mini conference, they didn't show any new titles we didn't already know about. Although I have to admit the Paper Mario Sticker Star demo made me drool for the game.

First off, appreciate the civil feedback stealth. Always good to hear another side to a coin.

If you mean day one releases, there's only 6 confirmed titles. ZombiU, Pikmin 3, Super Mario Bros U, Nintendo Land, Ninja Gaiden 3. While ZombiU looks good and Pikmin 3 is great, the rest are dead horses and ports. Also, ZombiU won't be exclusive.

If you mean launch window titles, again that all depends on if you have no other consoles. Just not enough good exclusives (for me) to warrant a buy.

At least Microsoft had a live performance of Usher singing his latest top rating song and dance moves!

I know it is a small thing but I was entertained.

I am not a Wii onwer but I could be tempted with the Wii-U (with backwards compatibility with the Wii). Just need to wait and see

It had (almost) nothing to do with games though, did it? Aside from the fact I don't like Usher, the guy sang a whole 4 minutes or so of song, which showcased nothing for Microsoft apart from the size of their wallet (and I dare say some desperation, if I were to be a bit more cynical).
