I bought a used PSP today. #WhatHaveIDone

There are a couple PS classics I've been meaning to play and I'd love to have them on the handheld for some midnight gaming with (tactical espionage) headphone action. Several old games are donwloadable for the PSP, but wouldn't you need two of each shoulder button to play them? I'm looking at Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill especially.

Has anyone had experience with ports from the Playstation Store? What's different from the original?
Also, any recommendations for games in general?

This can be configured, but I think the default for the other shoulder buttons is the analog nub. Left = L2, right = R2, up = L2+R2. I don't think there are many other things changed.

Kevio17 is correct. Button mapping can also be done through the PSP menu by tapping the "PS" logo button while playing the PSX title. In that menu you also do your disk swapping by selecting which disk you want active.

I forget which was which, but when I played MGS on PSP I set the change item trigger to shoulder buttons and the quick equip/unequip set to the left right on the analog stick. It played great.

This is interesting. I'd always wondered how they dealt with the extra shoulder buttons, but had never actually bothered to find out. ^_^

On FF9, I conf. R2 and L2 as R1 and L1 and in FF8 R2 and L2 it was the up directional button. I don't know why it's different...? Usually I change to controller to Type 4.

Having only played Final Fantasy classics, I hadn't even considered it either.

Guess I'm getting MGS then. Also, PSX controllers had analogue sticks but were they used in all games?

Oh certainly not, I never had a PS1 controller with analogue sticks and I was able to play all of my games.

Pretty sure the only PS1 game that required an analogue controller was Ape Escape.

Or am I reading your question the wrong way? Lots of games used the sticks as well as the d-pad, but they always shared the same function (bar Ape Escape).

The only MGS game I've played is MGS2 in which it, at times, sorta matters if you're running or walking. My concern is that in case the same is true in the first one, I won't be able to sneak around as easily as I was able to in MGS2.

MGS1 doesn't use that kind of sensitivity, you can only run, regardless of whether you're using the stick gently or all the way. If you're moving slowly in MGS1 you'll have to crawl :)
