For example: Crisis Core got a 2/5 on XPlay, but I felt it was at least a 4/5.

I'd have to disagree... I think Crisis Core is OVERrated. I still haven't even finished it, because there was nothing about it that made me want to do so.

I second Crisis Core being overrated. Yes, it was the best of the various FFVII spinoffs, but the combat was very bland and the story often failed to make sense. coughAngealcough

Dreamfall, sequel to The Longest Journey, is a truly underrated game. Critics are mixed, but almost nobody knows about it. And I know I bring it up whenever I can. Tongue

Another underrated game i think is the SEGA megadrive game called Ristar. It came out when the megadrive was on it's last year. What i love about this game is just how fun and simple it is plus it's the most colourful game that i've seen in a game before.

Final Fantasy 13, Star Ocean 4 and Dreamfall : The Longest Journey (sequel to The Longest Journey)

Edit: OMG SOMEONE ELSE MENTIONED DREAMFALL, I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO PLAYED THE GAME!

Crash Team Racing on Ps1? Yes it's a copy of Mario kart, but that doesn't mean it isn't good//fun.

Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side is still considered by myself as one of the most overlooked fighting games of all time. The main reason for this, sadly, is due to the general reception of the Sega CD, and the fact that the industry bore more attention to the bigger hits of the genre, namely Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.

The game centers around the concept that each combatant, from various eras in Earth history, was snatched moments before their deaths before they could fulfill their destiny, generally for the better of mankind. Their savior, an enigmatic Eternal Champion, an entity that governs the balance of nature and time, places them in a tournament, promising the ultimate victor the chance to return back to their era to save themselves, and in doing so, restore balance.

While the original Genesis version had nine characters, Challenge to the Dark Side hosted nine additional secret characters, cinematics, and gruesome fatalities that made the original Mortal Kombat blush. I don't remember how I felt about the soundtrack of the original, but Challenge from the Dark Side's soundtrack was really kick-ass!

Seems people are using different meanings of Underrated but that's making the thread alot more lively. I like it.

Underrated as in low sales or press:
Xenogears - Amazing game. Havn't played it in forever and I have it sitting on my PSP for later when I have more time. Had a huge story from what I remember, and the combo turn based system was fun and unique. The 2D sprites on 3d field was weird but very well executed. Can't wait to play it again (wish I could find my original copy..)

Valkyria Chronicles - Amazing game in every way possible. This game should have easily been a GotY hands down. Great story, beautiful art style, brand new engine made just for the game, amazing gameplay.

Alan Wake - This game did a lot of things right and I enjoyed it very much. Sadly it didn't seem to sell well.

Tales of Vesperia - Great RPG that does so many things right. While it's not a TurnBased battle system, it's got a great unique flavor that works and gives people that fast pace feel. Loved the characters and their development. It was also a beautiful anime style that worked great.

Guardian Heroes - Played this game to death. It was a lot of fun and I so wish I didn't lose my copy of it.. think my brother has it hidden somewhere at his house.. he's like the black hole for all my classic games.

Albert Odyssey - Enjoyed this game a lot though it was a little short if I remember right. It's too bad I could never get my hands on a real copy of it. Rented it a few times.

Lunar - Played the SSSC version for PS1. Was an amazing story and I fell in love with the characters and their chemistry.

Ugh could keep going, but I'll stop there.

I'd like to throw my 2 cents in with this thread. I have a few games that I feel are underrated but a lot of you will probably disagree with me.

The first is Dirge of Cerberus: FF7. I freaking love this game. I admit that it does not have the mass appeal of games like Call of Duty or Gears of War but I really like it. The story was interesting and had me pulled in from the very beginning and the graphics were great. Not to mention the gameplay which most people really seem to hate...I like it. It's not perfect but I feel that it was a very good system.

The second is both of the Star Wars the Force Unleashed games. I can't get enough of these games. They are short, that I will admit but I feel that the gameplay and story more than makes up for that. Now I played both of them on PC (downloaded them first and then bought them on steam later) and I did notice A LOT of glitches and bugs but I have gotten pretty used to seeing things like that so I've grown to really ignore them. In any case, these games are really good and are very underrated in my opinion.

The third and final one I will mention for now is Final Fantasy X-2. Now I know that Darryl loves this one but I gotta say, I did not like FFX but when I played this game I thought that all of the things that I had a problem with in FFX were gone. (F.Y.I. my problems with FFX consisted of mostly Tidus and Seymour, both of them annoyed the crap out of me.) It does have it's issues here and there but over all I really enjoyed playing through it and will probably replay it once I get done with replaying FF4 on the PSP.

That's pretty much it, only one thing I'd like to add. Crisis core is a great game and one of my favorites but as much as I hate to say it, it is pretty overrated. It has some glaring issues but some people just don't seem to mention them at all and it makes the game come out as near perfect in many reviews which it is not. I myself have completed it fully twice and I intend to do it again once I get my hands on a new copy of it but it is definately not in the same class as FF7, FF4 or FF9 in my opinion, which are, incidentally my favorite FF games in that order.

Anyway, I've gone on way longer than I was going to, sorry about that. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in and tell you guys my opinion on these games.
