I'm pretty sceptical about this, I really don't think Origin will be overtaking Steam any time soon. Or at all =p

Personally I think that Origin would really have to compete with Steam prices and variety of game, giving us as many deals and offers as steam does. And there's also how well it works.

I haven't tried it and don't intend to unless they really bring the game to the table. Bring it on I say Tongue

the way I see it, one thing that they might do to be a better platform is to make it so that accounts don't expire just because someone leaves it inactive to 2 years -_-

I think DeMartini may need to re-evaluate what made Facebook a phenomenon over MySpace, if he's really trying to compare Origin to Facebook. Facebook wasn't the first site in the social networking scene, but it's success story hinged on it's functionality as a more true and robust social networking experience than what MySpace then was - a clusterfuck of Top 8 popularity contests and "OMG! Look at my seizure-inducing page!"

Now, with that said, I can agree with him to a degree that competition should be encouraged by the industry and that Valve shouldn't be the only platform of it's kinda hogging all the love. At the same time, however, I have yet to see Valve require online passes for their games or try stupid DRM measures to ensure they aren't "losing profit from games".

I agree. It just is nowhere near Steam's standard as of yet. Especially since all Origin's games are EA only right? It is good that they're aiming high though, should at least push up their standard of service in any case.

Whenever anyone claims to be a "*insert industry leader*- killer", it's like hearing nails on a chalk board... The first thing this makes me think is not "oh wow a BETTER VERSION OF STEAM", my first reaction is skepticism because Steam has some pretty big shoes to fill, and criticism since the current build of origin is no where near Steam.

Killzone only attracted bad press for calling itself a "Halo-Killer". Android tablets that claim to be "iPad-Killers" have failed.

Creating a competitive product is not a bad thing, it's defining your product through the lens of another that is a bad thing. It only shines light on your product's inferiority. EA should do something special not something that is "the same-but-different".
