Currently, I'm debating putting money towards these things:

The purchase of a 3DS (I want to play Dream Drop Distance)
The purchase of games for my PS3?

What recommendations do you have for either? For the latter, could you list some games that you recommend? As a warning, I have no patience for FPS games. Sorry. Thanks!

Well, I never suggest a console purchase without 3 solid titles you must have. However if I'd say titles for each of those consoles, it would be:

3DS:
Zelda Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 7, Resident Evil R, Mario 3D Land, and Kid Icarus (Only if you are ok with the controls).

Looking down the road, Theatrhythm is also slated next week. And a host of more titles later this year (mostly 1st party and a Castlevania). Also be advised that 3DSXL is due August if you're picky about size.

PS3:
Valkyria Chronicles, Burnout Paradise, Little Big Planet, Heavenly Sword, Portal 2, MGSHD or MGS4, and the Uncharted Series.

League of Legends (PC)
This team-based MOPA game is pretty addicting. Not to mention it doesn't have demanding hardware requirements, and best of all, it's free-to-play.

Odin Sphere (PlayStation 2 or PS2 Classics on PSN)
This gem in the rough is a awesome-looking action RPG from Vanillaware, the same company founded by George Kamitani, and also the same visually creative folks behind the Wii exclusive Masamura: Demon Blade. Aside from gorgeous visuals, the game sports a unique alchemy system where you can craft potions (both defensive and offensive) using materials collected on the battlefield or shops - as well as a leveling system where you eat food to gain levels and more HP for your characters - but an enduring narrative that has you play as six different characters with their own ways of playing and their own perspective of the events leading to Ragnarok, the end of the world.

ARMA 2: Combined Operations

For $30, you get a great, great game. Plus with the famous DayZ out, you will get your moneys worth really, really quickly.

I myself don't have a 3DS, but if I did, one game I'd be buying day one is Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I'd also probably get a Mario game just for some light-hearted fun ^,^

As for the PS3, I highly suggest the Uncharted series. You said you dont like first person shooters, well this is a third person shooter with an awesome story, epic gameplay and much lovable characters. Not to mention the multiplayer is epic
Other games worth a play are Assassin's Creed, Heavy Rain, Little Big Planet and Red Dead Redemption

I have a 3DS and it's only collecting dust while I wait for Theatrythm And KH3D comes out. On the other hand, my PS3 is being used everyday. I recommend getting Heavy Rain, Assassin's Creed series, God of War, inFamous series, Mass Effect 2 & 3, Metal Gear series, Uncharted series, Flower, Journey, Super Stardust HD and Limbo just to name a few. The PS3 is an awesome device.
