I think that by now, I've made it rather well known that I'm none to fond of people throwing out spoilers without some kind of fair warning, no matter how old the story is, or how common knowledge you think it might be. I'll go as far as hiding well known spoilers such as (FF7 spoiler) Aerith Dying at the end of disk one or (Star Wars Empire Strikes Back Spoiler) Vader is Luke's father. heck, the other night, I got on my mother's case because we were watching this retro movie channel, and they were showing a trailer for one of the movies that was going to be on that night. And she, without thinking uttered out the ending of the movie. I proceeded to say to her, "SPOILER!". Now granted, I'm not much of a movie watcher anyway, but I'd like to have a warning before a spoiler is going to be thrown out into the open.

With me, its all a matter of choice with spoilers, as I will actually go out of my way sometimes to spoil something for myself, but I will not just go and out and out do so for anyone else. I will tell you that I am highly angered at 2 entities at this point in time because of rather blatant spoilers. The Simpsons have thrown out a heavy spoiler in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (Snape Kills Dumbledoor) and Nintendo practically spoiled their own game, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (When they gave Zelda the ability to turn into Shiek in Super Smash Bros. Thus pretty much revealing that Sheik is Zelda.) They've also spoiled other games in Smash Bros (most of which happen in Snake's codec on Brawl).

So, what is everyone else's take on spoilers?

I hate spoilers! Weather it be in games, tv series or movies. My younger sister who is 9 is terrible for spoiling Doctor Who. She is obsessed with that TV series, and recently, a day or two after the first part of the final episode I went to visit them, and her first words were: ''Oh my god, Rory Killed Amy!'' Now ok, she is only a kid, but she knows that its not nice to spoil such things for others, but she still does ¬.¬

I've sometimes told people on here that they should spoiler tag their posts as they have included a spoiler or two. Some have said that they didn't think it was that spoilerific, but it still is a spoiler. Maybe if I haven't played a game and someone says something and then as i play the game, something occurs that contradicts what i've been told, i'm then aware of something that is going to change drastically. The only example I can think of at the moment, is when I spoilt myself playing Uncharted 2 before the first. I played 2 all the way through, then started playing 1. Of course, in UC1, at the beginning Sully is believed to be dead for a while in the game, yet I knew he cant have been as he was a character in UC2

I try to stay spoiler free from games, and i try not to spoil them for others. I never spoilt myself for any games I played, but was spoilt in school in FFX Auron not being alive, and Tidus dying at the end of the game and VII Aerith being killed by Sephiroth. As for the FFX spoiler, that could be a reason as to why i never completed the game, because i knew what happened.

People should be more thoughtful of others when discussing such things within a game. After all, how much effort does it take to change the colour to white?

none what so ever i would think, especially if you already know you are going to post something heavy in spoilers. I mean, when I posted this thread, I actually had the color tag copied and just pasted for each one after. It's still on my clipboard as a matter of fact.

and yea, kids are bad for spoilers. My nephew tends to spoil a lot of things. in fact, he's spoiled Jak 3 for me before as he told me how Jak was actually Mar and Daxter was a god, or something like that..... One time, he was getting ready to spoil a movie that we were getting ready to watch (Ice Age 3) and I would not let him speak. I've even threatened him with time out for spoilers. I don't care how old the story, or how well I already know it. I am not easy on anyone when it comes to spoilers.

Now granted, I will (as I do believe I mentioned) go out of my way to spoil something for myself, but at that point, it's my own choice, and I am careful not to spoil it for anyone else. There are things though that I did my best to avoid ANY spoilers what so ever (Harry Potter book 7 and Jak 3 for example).

I agree with this thread but i'm gonna go one further, i'm going to start spoiling things with fake spoilers, for instance In Metroid: Other M, it turns out that Samus IS a guy. Another example would be the true story behind the Legend Of Zelda series, Chickens are the enemy.

But yes, spoliers must be clearly labeled with maybe a red SPOILER tag before having the actual spoiler in white. An example of this would be:

SPOILER: Darth Vader isn't Luke Skywalker's father, he is the Stig.

I gonna say this...I love spoilers. However, I do consider others who hate them and won't spoil it for them. For me, it's like this. I go out of my way to spoil something for myself. However, that doesn't ruin the experience for me when I actually go to see/play/read whatever I spoiled. I get a better experience knowing things beforehand. I can see why others hate them and I won't spoil stuff for them. And, are we going to be posting examples of spoilers in every post?

When it's something I really love then I completely hate spoilers. If it's something that I don't care so much about, I don't mind so much. However, when looking on Wikipedia at anime series or something, I feel disappointed when I see huge plot reveals even if I wasn't even interested in watching the thing.

Anyway, I think that there's NO excuse for spoiling other people on current or recent media items. Why take the enjoyment that you had from something away from someone else? However, I do think that there should be limitations on that. I mean, Star Wars Ep V was 30 years ago. It's difficult to imagine that anyone that is old enough to be on the internet wouldn't already know the huge plot developments. That being said, trolling spoils is just stupid.

Spoiler tags should definitely be used in forums. There's no reason not to.

YouTube commentors are bad with spoilers. When watching anime on there, sometimes I just have to hide the comments, because even accidently I will scroll down and see someone shouting out the end of the series or a big twist.
Spoilers are so tempting, though. XP Many times I will see half of one, realize it's a spoiler, stop reading it... but what I did learn will have me desiring to know more.

I usually don't read any of the comments on Youtube, but I believe that this is how I got spoiled for Death Note. Tongue

Same here. The ending at least. I hate spoilers as well, even though I accidentaly spoiled Ventus with part of Death Note.Tongue I'm sorry about that Ven, but anyway I hate going on the KH wiki, scrolling down to see the wiki answers section by accident, and being accidentaly spoiled on a part of BBS!!!!! Spoilers are very tempting, but I try to avoid them when I can.
