I had a lot of nostalgia fun writing an article the other day. It was on my favorite PS1 titles of all time. Thought I'd share my list here and ask what's everyone's favorites here. I may also do this for other consoles later.

Playstation 1 was by far one of my favorite consoles of all time. There was SOO many good games on it, it was very hard to limit my list to 20, let alone attempt 10. But here's my 20 in order of favorite.

1. Xenogears – Easily my favorite game of all time. It featured an amazing cast, great art style, addictive combo based combat, deep story, great plot twists, and many gameplay mechanics that kept it fresh.
2. Final Fantasy 7 – While not the greatest FF of all time or most deep story, FF7 revolutionized the way RPG stories were told. The use of amazing pre-rendered backgrounds as well as CGIs in real time events was key.
3. Final Fantasy Tactics – The most amazingly addictive Tactical RPG ever invented. The job system was amazing and there was so much depth to the combat, it’s yet to be rivaled.
4. Resident Evil 2 – The best Resident Evil game to date. The sense of horror and helplessness this game entailed has yet to be outdone by it’s sequels.
5. Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete – While it is a port, it was remastered so beautifully. The story was priceless, characters were well crafted, and the combat worked great.
6. Metal Gear Solid – This iconic title was a masterpiece in stealth or action gameplay. More so, the amazing thought put into each detail and ever changing and ever fresh gameplay elements. Also, the narrative and voicing work made the characters come alive.
7. Final Fantasy 8 – Following the success of 7, 8 expanded on the great gameplay and visuals. On top of that, it had a great story. While the draw system was a huge crippling of the game, it still did so many things right that I can overlook it.
8. Parasite Eve – Truly a unique game idea, Parasite Eve seemed like a cross between Resident Evil and an RPG. And it worked! Great story telling, fun weapon customization, and great gameplay.
9. MegaMan Legends – The transition from 2D to 3D killed off a lot of 2D platformer IPs, but Megaman changed that with this priceless gem. It became one of (if not the first) 3rd person shooters I loved.
10. Final Fantasy 9 – Ah yes, yet another FF in my list. Concluding the age of pixel characters running on Pre-Rendered backgrounds, FF9 was a homage to the original FF titles from the Nintendo era. Great story, great characters, and a great skill system.
11. Legend of Dragoon – Another amazing Pre-Rendered RPG. This classic title still stands as a great storytelling title with a unique combat element with spirits and precision.
12. Bushido Blade – One of the most ingenious fighting games I’ve ever played. No health bars, just 2 opponents with weapons seeing who will lay the lethal blow. I was so addicted to this game.
13. Tenchu: Stealth Assassins – The first and only Tenchu I enjoyed, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I had so much fun attempting to not get caught while taking out my enemies from the shadows.
14. Chrono Cross – Another amazing RPG from the PS1 era. While it took a lot of flack for not being Chrono Trigger, it definitely brought some great story and gameplay to stand out as it’s own. That and the music, gorgeous!
15. Tomb Raider – The original Uncharted, Lara was an amazingly unique and awesome protagonist. Puzzles, action, and platforming was just stellar and it definitely stood out from the rest.
16. Vagrant Story – An odd cross between a action platformer and a tactical RPG. This title brings in so many elements so well that it stands out as a gem of the era.
17. Silent Hill – From start to finish, this title was a survival horror classic and still remains one of my most memorable survival horror titles.
18. Spyro the Dragon – One of the best 3D platformer titles for the PS1 era. It was fun, addictive, and had tons of maps to change up the gameplay.
19. Einhander – While it didn’t change the side scroll shooting genre by mechanics, the environments were detailed and the shifting 3D world made for some stunning atmosphere.
20. Gran Turismo 2 – I’m not a big racer fan, but this title somehow snagged me. I guess it was the RPG element of building up to getting the better cars.

So what's your favorite PS1 titles of all time? List them out, and if you want, tell us why you love them!

I didn't own a PS1 so I don't have a lot of history with it but there were a few games I played back in the day as well as several that I've bought in more recent years (either physical copies or via the PSN). Favourites would be:

Tekken 3
- I've been hooked on this game since the first time I played it. I remember a friend had the demo where Ling Xiaoyu and Eddy were the only playable characters. Later I had other friends that owned it and I eventually bought it when I got a PS2 (for a couple of bucks off eBay. Score). I own all the Tekken games except Tekken 4, but Tekken 3 is still the one I play the most.

Tombi/Tomba - An awesome 2.5D open world platformer and some very light RPG elements. Another one I discovered via demo when one of my friends and I swapped consoles for a few weeks (his PS1 for my N64). A very bizarre game with a wacky sense of humour and solid gameplay.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - I didn't discover this game until about 5 years ago. I was immediately hooked. I had played and loved Super Metroid and this one was right up my alley.

Rayman - I remember reading a long article/review of this game in a Sega magazine (because it was also on the Saturn) and I was enthralled by the screenshots. A couple of years later a friend had it on the PS1 and I loved it. It wasn't till several years later that I owned it though, first on PC then on PS1 (via PSN).

Kula World (also known as Roll Away in North America) - Yet another one I first played via a PS1 demo disk. A 3D puzzle platformer where you move a beach ball around weird structures floating in the sky collecting gems and fruit. What's not to love?

Graaaaaan Turismo! Very much responsible for getting me into gaming in the first place, and still a game that I look upon with much fondness. The series has grown and changed rather a lot since the very first game but Polyphony's high standards never dropped. Long may that continue.

Also, Final Fantasy VII. Just such a good game, and I can still play it now and enjoy it, nostalgia aside. Square Enix could learn a lot from the old Squaresoft...

Good list Waldo. I got comments about Tomba on my blog too lol. I liked it, but never got into it.

Castlevania SotN however, was a pretty awesome game. Was one of my favorite Castlevanias of all time.

That can't be said enough. When I was making my list of top PS1 games, I had to fight the urge to adding every SquareSoft title to it. TBH, the end result WAS me holding off quite a few. I still ended up with half of my 20 list being SquareSoft games. That says a lot. They were pumping out insane quality games. I predict if I went through SNES titles (Which I may do next) it'll be the same way.

Not sure if this is in any particular order, but I'll list a few:

Final Fantasy VIII - t'was the game that got me into big RPGs that wasn't Pokémon Red. Tongue And introduced me to the series as a whole. I didn't play FFVII, so I had the pleasure of playing it without having anything to compare it to. It was all wonderful.

Metal Gear Solid - obviously. It was unlike anything I had ever played at the time. Borrowed it from a friend and not returned it. I was a bit young to comprehend the latter stages of the story - lost track of things after the codec calls around Raven's second fight - but good times all the same.

Spyro: Gateway To Glimmer - another game that wasn't actually mine. XD One of several games that I discovered through PSM's demo discs, the demo had two levels and I played them over and over until I realised a friend had the full game. That he didn't want anymore! Platforming awesomeness, and I remember the last two gems that kept 100% completion away from me for days. The game that got me into being a slightly-obsessive collector. Criminally, not yet on PSN over here. Sad

Final Fantasy IX - tends to be more in the 'nostalgia' category for me than FFVIII is. I put this down to the incredible soundtrack, my favourite of the series, and my favourite mini-game, Chocobo Hot & Cold! The odd moogle dotted around the place and the wonderful story helped too.

Lemmings 3D - yep. I don't know anyone else who had ever played this - bar my uncle, who was the one that gave it to me. It's Lemmings - but in 3D! Great soundtrack, colourful graphics, and some real headscratching puzzles.

Speed Freaks - also discovered via demo disc and the only racing game that will appear on here. Also, not as well known as it should be (I think it was called Speed Punks in America), and not on the PSN store. Sad Awesomely fun cutesy racer, compare to Mario Kart but with completely original characters, awesome courses (Grand Rapids was beautiful) and secret-character races that were damn near impossible but incredibly satisfying once you won.

Abe's Oddysee - I think this was my first PS1 game, bought with Crash Bandicoot. I remember completing it a couple of times but never once managing to catch all the Mudokons... Hard as hell in places too, but with a great sense of humour.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - just... yes. Such a fun and satisfying game. Came so close to 100%ing it too, there were a few gaps on each level that I couldn't find. Sad But I spent months on this. Then my disc broke. So I forked out another £30 to buy it again - this was back when I had to save to buy my games. Always reminds me of summer, particularly as I once recorded the soundtrack as it was playing from my TV and took the tape with me on holiday. Also, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD is out this week, which goes back to the roots of the series. And the fandom rejoiced...

I was born in the era of PS1 and the small amount of games that I had were pretty much my only favourite games for the PS1 until:

Metal Gear Solid: that game is really awesome. I only first played it a fortnight ago but the game has the best story ever, IMO next to MGS2. Also the breaking of the fourth wall stuff was genius. I love that game. Also MGS has the best Game Over screen and theme ever.

Final Fantasy VII: While not my favourite or the best FF game (that goes to FFIV) it still was awesome. Only playing it for the first time last year, I could tell why a LOT of people thought this was the best JRPG ever. Even in 2011, I would get excited when a CGI cutscene would appear because I knew thought this was really good for the PS1 and the artstyle was great for them.

Crash Bandicoot (1, 2, 3) and Spyro (1, 2, 3): These games were the funnest games I played on the PS1 as a child. The weird crazy humour from Crash and the fun gliding platforming in Spyro was challenging as a kid.

Disney's Hercules This side-scrolling action game (available on PSN) was played by me before I knew how to save games so the first level I know really well. I saw Mum beat it and I beat it when I was about 7.

That's all my memories on those games.

unfortunately i didnt have many games on my ps1, but still there were a few awesome games i played

Final Fantasy IX - the main reason i got into gaming, its my all time favourite game, the story the characters, the soundtrack, the awesome grapichs, made this one the best games on the ps1

Crash Team Racing - this kart racing game was really fun, launching missiles at oponents, traps all over the course, among other reasons made this one really enjoyable game to play, specially with friends

Driver 2 - the reason why i loved this game, was because i loved stealing cars, and getting away from the police Tongue, the campaing was cool and i discovered all the secret cars xD

Great game. I loved how it had situations where you could either take the time to think your way through it and try an minimise the risk, or you could just run in guns blazing, so to speak, and hope to make it out alive.

I think the first time I played it I only saved 30 or so of the Mudokons which gets the bad ending (I think you need at least 50 for the good ending). I later used a walkthrough to find the locations of all 99 of them. Good times. Abe's Exoddus had 300 Mudokons. I didn't have the patience to find them all even with a walkthrough.

In my hall of game for the PS1 I would have to include

Final Fantasy 7,8,9 - they were the first RPG games I played and are the games that have since hooked me to everything Square and will always be my favorite PS1 games

Spyro 1-3 - Probably the most addictive games for me on the PS1 and had a lot of funny moments mostly for me any scene that included Hunter

Metal Gear Solid - Was a little bit young when I first played this and I remember absolutely being freaked out by Psycho Mantis when he reads your memory card.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 - Way to much time was spent on this game trying new combos and getting towards 100% on this game but it was time well spent
