Welcome to the Season 4 of Gaming Union's community event New Game Plus! This is a feature that sees Unionites all take on the same game and play through to a pre-determined checkpoint each week, a bit like a bookclub but for video games. Of course, this also means that it's just like playing a game normally, but plus the GU community! The aim of the event is to get more people joining in depth discussion about games in general but also promotes an environment where people can look more closely at smaller sections of one game at a time, creating a space where we can be more analytical or critical about game design or mechanics.

Previous, the Gaming Union community has played through three games together; From stealth action Metal Gear Solid, to classic JRPG Final Fantasy I, and last season, action-adventure Tomb Raider: Legend. It's been a lot of fun, with a variety of conversation topics because no conversation topic is barred! The only requirement is that you play through each section with everyone else on the set week, otherwise you'll get left behind. And of course, to truly be taking part, you MUST join in the conversation!

For our fourth season of New Game Plus, the Gaming Union community voted and, though it was a close call, in the end Valkyria Chronicles won! This tactical RPG was developed by Sega WOW and came out on the PlayStation 3 in 2008. We're going to be starting our first week of war on the 9th of August, when I'll post up a thread letting you know the rules and also the first checkpoint, so please everyone who is interested in taking part get your hands on a copy as soon as you can! There'll also be various other media outputs from members of the community to accompany this playthrough, so keep your eye out for them through the coming weeks.

I'm very glad that NGP is going to play Valkyria Chronicles, because it's just a really beautiful and challenging strategy game and every gamer, strategy fan or not, should at least play it. Even though I wished Catherine could have done better in the polls and finding out BEFORE it was about to close, but still! This doesn't mean that VC isn't what I wanted. Also, in my opinion, I would have liked VC to be a first person shooter, but still it was pretty good. =)

I am ready for this, I am so glad. Cannot wait to play and talk endlessly about it. I just wonder where we are going to play to. Heh I hope everyone is ready for this epic fight in this Sega classic, on par with any given Dreamcast game. Still love it to no end.

I'm looking forward to it. I did just start playing Mass Effect 3 so it'll be hard tearing myself away from that but Valkyria Chronicles has been on my pile of shame for ages so I'll make sure I give it priority each week.
