Actually, all the current Union system does it ask for a thread ID. So if there was an existing thread, we could easily link it to that (and make an edit on the first post linking to the news post).

I definitely would like to see the new integrated system implemented, as I think is works very well on the Union sites. Regardnig the issue of it stemming the flow of conversation, it shouldn't be too bad as anyone commenting can see the previous posts and can even add to the conversation. If this wasn't the case, I would suggest having a comments system that automatically stops comments after say, 2 or 3 days of the article being posted, as most people comment with just their own opinions rather than responding to older posts.

I'd say maybe after a week or two to let posting go on, but coding in that ability wouldn't be too hard.

I like the comment system. It allows me to post a comment or a thought on a story right on the main site.
