Quote:For those who have been following the Tales news as of late, you likely already know that Namco Tales Studio is in severe debt, barely covering their short-term debts and with long term debts almost four times their current reserves. With all this uncertainty, one question naturally comes to mind --- how will this affect the series from here on out?

According to their balance sheets, Namco Tales Studio's current assets plus their fixed assets are around 6.6 million, with their current liabilities just barely below that amount at 6.5 million Yen. While this might not sound all that bad considering the current lackluster state of RPGs in this next-gen era, the long-term liabilities and the shareholder stakes in the company are around 22-23 million --- almost 400% of what Namco Tales Studio could pay. In effect, if the shareholders were to all cash out at this moment, it would effectively "kill" the developer four times over. While this kind of debt can be expected from a start-up company, it is quite shocking for a long-running company to amass this amount of debt.

It is important to note that after 2006 Namco Bandai fully owns the studio after buying the remaining shares from Telnet Japan, so some of these debts could have been passed on from Namco Bandai to hide some of their own debt, which was widely reported when the publisher announced they would be restructuring the company as well as decreasing its workforce.

wow this is pretty sad. But this is IMO but I think the reason for the low sales is the systems they sold their games on. I mean if they went multiplatform for games or even if they just used one console that was really popular in Japan and America (such as the ps3) maybe their sales would've been better and they wouldn't be in this serious of a debt

When you think about it, do you think that this combined with the fact that they don't want to lease the series out to third party publishers is the reason as to why no Tales games in the past two years have been localized over here?

Wait... Late last year, didn't the Vesperia cast go back to the studio to re-record lines that were edited in the PS3 version? Or was that just a rumor?

They got one of the voice actors on video admitting it recently, but until Namdai announces it, it's still unannounced for North America and Europe.

Ahh. I was just making sure-- if they really are working on localizing it, then that means they haven't given up on the series overseas just yet.

I'm really surprised that this did not happen any sooner.

If this turns out badly, I'll be over the moon. Call me spiteful, but I'd love it if non-Japanese people stopped being the only ones who don't get to play Tales games. I've suffered extreme jealousy for FAR TOO LONG!
