I like her, but she's not the best. She still needs to work out some kinks. With more exposure, she has the capablity to be the greatest. I haven't played VI, so I can't talk about Terra. My personal favorite is Tifa, but Ashe is great in her own right.

lightning is pretty kl and badass, but when it comes to cool and badass females i think we r forgetting about Paine from 10-2. it may of not been the best ff game but she was a pretty awsome character

She's got attitude, but that's about all. Is it just me or are characters, especially main characters not getting enough development in games lately? Remember Cloud? He sure didn't but we found out eventually, didn't we? That's the point. We need to see more of their past, who they are at the beginning of the game, and who they turn into. All I really saw from Lighting is "Oh, I am bad sister, hate, hate, raaaaaaaage" to "Oh I am bad sister but instead of PMSing all over snow etc, I'll work on it.". Maybe my opinion drastically varies to yours, I don't know, but yeah.

Oh, and looks-wise, she's number four for me.
1. Tifa
2. Ashe
3. Vanille
4. Lightning

Nah, sorry. Terra, Celes, Ashe and Fran are all better! Perhaps even Yuna and/or Lulu and Rikku as well. And even in XIII alone, she has Vanille and Fang to contend with.
