(SPOILERS, I guess, although this game is so old I don't think it matters)

I'm surprised that I've just now gotten to playing FFX...
First Final Fantasy game I've beaten. Kingdom Hearts got me introduced to Square. Anyway...

So Seymour's ultimate goal was to rid Spira of sorrow?
Hmm... So why is he such a bad guy?
But then you learn that he wants to do it by killing everyone and he himself is dead.
Ohh...
And then you start to question why he still exists even though he's dead.
I definitely believe in an after life, and thought that it's interesting the dead could still walk the world even though it's considered taboo.
But why do Yuna and the others react the way they did?
I mean, if life after death has been proven in Spira and it's a higher life without pain, then what is the point of having bodies tying us down?
It made me agree completely with Seymour.
Death really was just a taboo in this game.
That's where Square messed up.
Now, if they made negative effects or consequences as a result of death then I wouldn't be able to make this argument.

That's not really Seymour's decision to make...

And when your average person without a particularly strong will or reason to stick around dies in Spira, they end up turning into Fiends. And that's never fun.

This kind of storyline is written in a lot of Japanese stories, whether it be comics, animated shows, or games. Ususually the antagonist of the story is a prick who just wants to get what he wants because it is "better."

The closest example I can find is Code Geass, there is one leader of a country who in the background is doing some shady business, but when confronted says he is doing it for the people. Here the protagonist and his brosef do some awesome line exchange with the dude and kick his butt, but Seymour is imposing things that the people don't even know for sure is true.

^^ Hard to not give away spoilers in the situation, but you should watch it, it is very cool.

Well I think I'm confused as to what limitations death/unsent have.

I feel like unsents can be equivocated to Vampires in a way. How vampires live forever, can only be killed by stakes (Unsent killed by sending), don't age, are dead..

(No, I don't include Twilight in my depiction of vamps)

If this theory is right... problems are that ::
1. you watch the people you love get older and die.
2. you can't have children.
3. you turn into a fiend.
4. you can't die. I don't think there's anyone on this earth who wants to live on forever. If there is, ok good for you, but I want to just live my life and then pass away. I don't want to see past that.

I dunno, that's just some of the things I was thinking about. It's really interesting observation though.

Having seen Code Geass very recently I find myself understanding what you mean and also grinning smugly that I know things ^_^

In Seymour's perfect world though, everyone would be dead, so that wouldn't apply. I'm also starting to wonder about the turning into fiends thing if everyone was dead, because the way they explained it in the game was that: *ahem* "the souls of the unsent envy the living. This envy turns to anger, even hate. This is a path to the dark si-" oh no, wait... that last bit isn't right, is it? Anyway, if there's no-one left alive then there is nobody to become jealous of, so maybe that wouldn't apply either.

The children and living for eternity thing definitely still hold up for sure though. Seymour blatantly didn't think this master plan through.

Something something something DARK SIDE.
Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention in X, but why don't normal dead people end up like Seymour? Or is it just that Seymour had enough willpower to get away from the Farplane?

When Yuna and the party killed him, he was prevented from being sent by Jyscal - so in that way, he was allowed to live, even as a unsent. Normal people don't end up like Seymour as they probably recieved a sending and accepted death.
