Ok i listened to Episode 4 of KH Union and this goes out mostly to Ashadelo.

Here's my recommendation in which the games should be played.

1. Birth by Sleep (When it releases...)
2. Kingdom Hearts 1
3. Chain of Memories OR Re: Chain of Memories.
4. 358/2 Days
5. Kingdom Hearts 2

Birth by sleep is supposed to be the prelude to the entire series since it takes place before Sora becomes the Keyblade Master.

Kingdom Hearts 1 is the start of Sora's legacy, so it's a good idea to do this after BBS

Chain of Memories gives you a bit of the organization's plot and other things.

358/2 Days will explain Roxas' legacy before he (SPOILER, DONT READ) disappeared after awakening Sora in Kingdom Hearts 2.

Kingdom Hearts 2 is possibly the second most important game because it basically ends the series with (SPOILER) Roxas disappearing and becoming a part of Sora again.

If anyone wants to help Ashadelo, please post your recommendations here.

Hmm, I'd actually play them the order they were released. Story wise, a lot is explained in one game that will help your understanding in another, for example, the whole 'nobody' thing is explained in kh2, which makes 358/2 days easier to understand.
As we dont know what the story is like in BBS, i'd say play it last cause we dont know much about it yet!

I'd play them in this order:

KH1
KH: Chain of Memories
KH 2
KH 358/2 Days

Then, once you understand the story an all, i'd play it in this order

Birth By Sleep
1
358/2 Days - you could stop playing this when it gets to CoM stage, then continue once you've fin Com?
Chain of memories
2

I have to agree with phoenix, and just as a side note, KH2 end isn't the end of the series. Nomura stated that Sora's journey isn't over, he is just taking a break from that, but once the three FNC(Fabula Nova Crystallis) games are out of the way, he would focus on KH.

He intends to make a KH3, just not really any time soon.

Always play games in release order.

They were made in that order so everything will make sense in that order, no matter what, even though it's not chronological.

This is @ Ashadelo , you should play them in order of release, because they were made to go in order of release , if you played in a different order you will either find out to much and ruin the next game. or you wont know enough and be totally confused. so just play them in order of release XD ( its much easier )

Personally, my recommendation is to play Birth by Sleep after you've played everything else. BBS ties Kingdom Hearts, Chain of Memories, Days, and KH Two together, and if you play Birth by Sleep, you ruin some parts of the other four games. So, the order would be...

KH
CoM
KHII
358/2 Days
Birth By Sleep

I'm going to say the order they were released. That's the many of us played the series and it didn't do us an ounce of harm.

Hmm... I say the order they release also... Although, you could get away with playing CoM after KH2.

(spoiler wanring)

In the beginning of KH2, sora lost his memory of what happened in Castle Oblivion. It wouldn't make you confused about what happened that much, because the story has little to do with Castle Oblivion at first.
